Does anyone else use IFTTT for controlling wi-fi, volume, etc based on location?
I thought I'd give it a try rather than Tasker but it's not impressing me so far. The location stuff only seems to work sporadically, and generally I have to open the app before it updates which is a bit useless.

I'm due an upgrade on my HTC One M8s (I'm with EE). I quite like the HTC but it is getting a bit slow. Any suggestions on something similar to the HTC on the market now?

I've been on it quite a bit today, went down to 50% charge and thought i'd throw it on. The fast charging is quick.
I think i'm really going to miss the removable battery and having a spare fully charged with me though. Gutted no decent phones with that feature have come out since the note 4 really! (Except that LG one that's only available in America and Australia :/)

I've been really impressed with the battery on my s7, so I'm sure it'll be fine. It actually lasts a day of pretty constant use and I no longer panic when it gets near 40% as that no longer means about an hour of use.

I use it to control the house Hue lights and some wifi/blue tooth features based on location. Not had a problem so far.
You may need to widen the location circle a bit, it has a problem when you make location radius too small.

Cheers, it seems a bit erratic so maybe I'll try increasing the location size. I'm not sure whether part of the issue is conflicting instructions, e.g. I want to turn on wi-fi when I enter an area and turn it off when I leave, there appears to be no easy way to do that.

Got the Blackberry KEYone this morning. Looks and feels well nice. Gonna be fun using a physical keyboard on a phone again!

So far loving the S8+
the system settings are light years ahead of the S6 in terms of available features.
the iris scanner to unlock when you push the power button is one of my favourite features so far. the facial recognition didnt work as well because of my beard I guess.

Blackberry
Wow another fruit-based company name has entered the mobile market!
What are those things under the screen though?

The retro awesomeness is awesome. Got 9 hours screen on time which is pretty darn decent. The keyboard has cool features like short and long press shortcuts to open apps from the homescreen. Ie Short tap W to open whatsapp, long tap to open weather app. Can scroll webpages by swiping on the keyboard. The physical keyboard is pretty handy with android split screen. Can have two apps open and use the keyboard at the same time. For instance, have youTube going and be typing on a word document without a virtual keyboard then taking up half the screen.
Why does it feel like I’m trying to flog a dead horse!?!

It's all about hardened phones these days. Where's my Xcover4?

I've just encrypted my phone (Android 7, I didn't realise it wasn't encrypted by default).
However, the SD card (set up as adopted storage) is now no longer recognised. Am I missing something or does turning encryption on really just fuck up your SD card with no warnings?
Also, it keeps asking me to set a backup account but I can't select my main google account (well I can but nothing happens). Is it expecting me to have two google accounts or is this just a bit fucked as well?
-
• #18369
Possibly it means backup account as in: "second account to use for authenticating if you lose access to the first" as opposed to "account to back stuff up to".
-
• #18370
It could be but I wouldn't have thought that many people had two google accounts (and the notification won't go away).
Bigger issue is the SD card. An arbitrary selection of apps that were installed on there have disappeared and I assume that I can no longer access anything that was saved on there. Photos are backed up and I have (I hope) a full backup from a few months ago but still pretty shit.

No idea on the SD card sorry.
For the account, does it need to be a Google account, not just any email address that it can email the unlock code to?

It had to be a google account. It stopped asking me when I took the SD card out though for some weird reason.
There is a way to decrypt the memory card using the key on the phone but, looking at my phone, the folder with the key had disappeared. No idea why but I've backed it up now.
It really fucked something up though, I had a backup of the SD card on my PC from a month ago decided to cut my losses, forget the card and re-format it. I kept getting a weird error message when trying to format, which corrupted the SD card. Tried a new card, tried booting into TWRP and creating a partition there, tried formatting as exFat and FAT32 and none of that worked either. It could see it was a Samsung SD card but showed it as unsupported.
Eventually formatted it as Ext4 and the phone recognised it and allowed me to format it, no idea what the issue was.

This. My first android device too and both the OS and the device are a joy to use. At first I thought the XL would be too large but having got the regular size one I almost regret it. Other than that it was the best purchase I've made in years.
Battery was why I went for the + too. DPD are dropping mine off in 3-4 hours.
