True that. Bin it.

Where are they from? Looks ideal for a 650 conversion.

Requires hacking existing canti bosses and then tapping whats left on the frame for M10 or whatever size those removable posts are.
-
• #32
They're designed for BMX V brake mounts, not cantis

Unsure what your point is ... IIRC both removable BMX V-brake posts can be either M10 or M8 ... it's U-brake posts which are different, they are usually M6 or M8.
Normal removable canti posts should work on an adaptor meant for M10 posts.

Just that a lot of BMX frames already have removable posts, a lot of people ride brakeless. So you wouldn't need to hack anything?
I've no idea about bolt sizes though. I'll go with whatever you say -

Also, to OP — depending on how much internal threading is left on the canti mounts after you grind posts, you might be able to just use an M6 bolt with washer to secure instead of drilling and tapping for m10

Well i did not know they were a thing, but they also would not work
Half the advice on this forum!
Just stick with 700c, means less faffing, wider tyre choice, cheaper, simpler etc etc etc. It might not please the 650b purebreds on this site, but it'll carry your girlfriend from A to B.
Otherwise it seems like it's getting complicated, simply for the sake of getting complicated

It's the only reason I like bicycles.
Srsly though .. measure the distance between canti posts before you settle on brakes.
I've just been around the houses this week as I stupidly assumed the GF Bike (a Dawes mixte) would work with any canti / v-brake I wanted. Turns out the frame is older than I thought and uses obsolete narrower spacing and no modern canti or V-brake I tried had a wide enough space between pads to allow proper set up.
Solution was getting some NOS Tektros which uses post mount pads instead of threaded.
PS I've got her old Shimano's if you run into difficulty. Not great but cheap and better than no brakes.

It's the only reason I like bicyclesFlatmate has just said exactly that! "they're bike people, what did you expect?"

Slowwwwwww progress, even the GF has turned from "i dont even want a bike" to "when will my bike be ready" (success?)
Managed to score a rival 22 RD and im going to try and use it with the 10speed shifter, that should work right?
Hopefully find time next weekend to spray the frame!

Same pull so yes. Put a 10 speed cassette on and go.

If you're running flat / town bars and MTB levers, I'd run v-brakes. Cheap Tektro ones will work fine, the MTB levers will have enough pull for long(er) arm brakes (and you don't have to worry about cable pull like you do with road levers and v-brakes) and it will be a lot easier to set up than canti's. I've set up cantis on four different bikes and v-brakes on two. The v-brakes were a lot simpler.
If you're really set on canti's, the Tektro CR720 with Kool Stop salmon pads work great.

Not 100% set on it having cantis forever, but i have roughly 2 full sets of cantis that I got for free so will try and use them before deciding they are shit.
Never set up cantis before so will be interesting at least.

So upon test fitting all the grips, brake levers shifter and bell the bars dont work, the flat tops arent long enough to house everything.
So if anyone has anything to swap that might work then im all ears, my other option at the moment is to use some on one fleegle bars, but they are white and that will look pants, so i'm thinking if i use them i'll paint them to match the frame (which could also look shit, but could look cool)

And actual updates!
Forks were painted a few weeks ago, did the frame yesterday, ran out of my first can so back to brick lane this week and next weekend i'll hopefully finish painting it!
@Jules ruining (or enhancing?) the only shots I got of the frame.
The finish looks and feels a bit powdery at the moment, but I guess a couple more layers to even out the paint and then wet n dry it then gloss laquer should hopefully make it look good.

Looks good
They look like they are made to work with frames where you can remove the canti posts from the base.
This frame does not do that.
