T K Maxx

We love a TK bargain and not just because Mrs IP is a buyer for them, when something good shows up it's very likely to also be in another store at the same time so a bit of a heads up thread like the Aldi one.
I recently found a bunch of Hario bits (Japanese coffee grinder Co), Reidel crystal wine glasses, Cheap Monday chinos and some Nike dryfit slouchies, not even in Londons famous London stores but in Herts.
TK also own Homesense, much bargainz to be had there too if you look beyond the tutt, great for books.

But why isn't it called TJ Maxx over here? Why did it have to get a different name when they brought it over here?

Actually, don't answer that. I'd rather stew and rant about until the day I die than know the real answer.

I asked that question when I moved here 15 years ago. If you find the answer let me know.

Is it because of pronunciation issues across Europe? The old Cif and Jif issue...

The font of all knowledge - Wikipedia says: The company modified the name to T.K. Maxx to avoid "confusion with the established British retail chain T J Hughes (which is not affiliated with TJX)".
I'd never heard of TJ Hughes (TJ's) but they do a similar shiz. I don't know why I looked that up but I am at work and bored shizless.

They're competing brothers.

Started shopping there when I realised they often do quality running shoes at v good prices (cf. Adidas Glide Boost, ~£3o; various Brooks from time to time), but pop in fairly often now for all sorts, including most of my recent wardrobe additions, and a very nice lamp shade.

We've got TK in Oz now, still not quite up to UK standards but slowly getting there... I've been updating my underwear in the last month...

I miss being able to wear jumpers and jackets, absolutely no need for them here... Not even trousers most of the time, it's shorts weather 350 days per year...

Maybe it’s because I’m getting old but I do like a changing season although my joints would deffo prefer the Aussie climate. My problem with jackets is a bit like decent shoes, I now own too many because they don’t wear out and I’ve run out of wardrobe space.

I used to know somebody who genuinely believed that men should stop wearing t-shirts when they reached 30 years of age.

Where I live the uniform is flipflops, board shorts, t-shirt (optional), moody New Era cap, Eurotrash shades and lots of tough stickers (must include Southern cross ink)...

Everyone is in shorts here, sartorially, I agree with you but all those considerations are cast aside when you're faced with temps above 35°c and 100% humidity... Try it sometime...

Yeah, the difference is in Oz my legs were always tanned and sexy as fuck. Not like the glow in the dark, British, chicken legs you get to witness as soon as the sun comes out.
