Anyone on HUEL?

  • WRONG!!!

    It's Soylent in HELVETICA! :)

  • Might actually give this a bash. I spend about £6-7 quid a day on lunches and climb three or four days a week so try to eat well, which isn't cheap.

Buying lunches takes a massive chunk out of my salary so this might be a goer.

Need to start cycling again as well. Been tubing it for over a year now and have very much noticed the expense.

  • Ordered. Curious to see how this goes.

  • Well I had some post work out, a sell by date chicken tikka with salad (one of rare times I eat meat) for lunch, and I'll have a Huel for my evening meal. One thing I learned to do is switch a big meal to lunchtime, otherwise you're sleeping on a heavy evening meal, if you do have food as well as Huel its good to do this if your aim is general fitness or weight loss.

  • I'll only really be using this for lunches tbh. Can I expect an afternoon crash doing this?

  • @Well_is_it Quite the opposite, you don't feel that lethargic at all. If you struggle you can always add another scoop or mix some fruit in and either cut back over a period of time or leave it. Bananas seem popular as they are cheap I guess. But heard of all sorts, have a look at the huel forum, it's very good. I actually have a lot of energy on this stuff but think sleeping well has a lot to do with it. In a morning coffee works well in it, I just bung a dessertspoon in straight out of the coffee bag.

  • Just had some delivered today. Am on a serious push to shift my excess weight so I can return to marathon running so figured it's worth a try.

find it's costing me a fortune to buy in ingredients for healthy lunches and i never have time to make it up in the morning and buying sandwiches not only costs even more but you end up with 6-700 kcal by the time you're done. so this sounds like it might be a good substitute for that by allowing me to eat ~400kcal for lunch and if i'm cycling or running add a snack sized portion before I leave the office while I eat healthily for breakfast/dinner.

  • Quite. I ended up feeding the bin half the time then spending too much per day at work. The other thing is I'm a hopeless grazer that tends to shop on an empty stomach. I'd buy all sorts of stuff on a whim that didn't fit into any sensible regimen

  • I think the main reason I find this so easy to take in place of nearly all my meals is because I literally down it in one. I get just over a pint out of each serving and just fill a glass, down it in one, add whatever is left to the glass, then down that too. I find that I barely notice the flavour or texture that way...neither of which bothers me anyway.
I think if you take ages over it, taking sips or small gulps, it just drags the whole thing out. Then people think too much about whether they like the taste and texture and end up struggling to take it regularly because they're already thinking about both those things when it's time for the next serving.
I might be alone in this technique though? :)

  • ^ I alternate between this on occasions and sip and savour. I find cinnamon helps the flavour and digestion

  • I combined my morning coconut oil with my breakfast huel today...more time saved and tasted pretty good too! :)

  • Probably better for your digestion to not chuck it down like that...

  • Coconut oil erry day!

  • No problems with digestion so far.
Compared to your stomach receiving a whole meals worth of regular food, of varying size and type, i reckon a glass of liquid huel is no massive chore to deal with.

  • Coconut oil. Talk to me

  • I can't imagine how you'd go about mixing coconut oil with this as it's a solid around room temp...

I usually just spread it on toast or put it in the aeropress if I'm feeling particularly broscience.

  • But it also melts at a very low temperature, so a quick heating turns it to liquid.
Normally I just eat it straight out the jar with a spoon, but I figured I'd try it mixed into the huel. Worked well.

  • I spoon it sometimes too.

    Ever eaten too much? 💩💩💩💩

  • Thankfully not... I was already well aware of the downsides to too much coconut. :)

  • Just trying to get my head around servings. Is it 124 grams per meal? Will that keep me going until dinner if I down it around 1pm?

Usually eat at around 12-1 and am hungry again by 3-4.

Also, they say it's a 28 meal supply but divide the weight by 28 and it's 88 grams...

  • Has anyone tried the bars?
Or used the Huel in cooking?

I've only had it as a drink but fancy trying Huel pancakes.

  • For me personally four bags is just about enough for the four weeks until my next order arrives, but I eat it about 4 times a day, sometimes 5...with three scoops per serving.

  • had my first 'meal' for lunch today. 3 scoops w/ water.

tasted like watery, oatmeal'y, vanilla'y milkshake with a garnish of cornflake dust from the bottom of the box.

thing is it's not unpleasant. just odd.

3 hours later I'm pretty hungry again already but I did cycle 11 miles already today and only had about 230kcal for breakfast (thin bagel & cream cheese).

  • So two bags should easily cover a single serving per day for weekdays only. I'll calculate the excess and save it for higher doses on climbing days or "oh shit I'm late for work" mornings.
