• Thanks.

Anyone used the S-One? They look/sound pretty ideal for the TCR.

Any downsides or words of warnings for me?

  • I've been on them a few weeks now. Obviously I can't give you a long term review, but I've ridden them quite a bit in this time and they're probably the nicest tire I've ridden. Cornering and grip is amazing.

  • I been using them for a long time now, mostly on roads but sometimes in towpaths and bridleways. Not a single flat, fast, comfy, wide. Very easy to mount with no tubes, hold air very well. Only downsides i can find is that they don't look the most durable tires and fairly expensive, but well worth it

  • My first foray into tubeless went surprisingly well. Schwalbe Pro-S, super tight fit though and had to use levers, against common advice but it certainly wasn't going on with thumbs alone. Very happy it pumped up with standard track pump. Would like to ask @dancing james what amount of puncture fluid you use, considering your experience of these tyres. Is 20ml enough?

  • I normally go for around 30ml, on the "why not" principle.

  • Thanks. I'd seen some online reviews about people getting punctures and guessed the recommended amount probably isn't enough, and most likely definitely not for the roads of London's famous London.

  • Finally got the Marathon Supreme TLEs on the road, 35c.

They are quite a bit narrower than the 37c Voyager Hypers that were previously on that bike.

Not yet put enough miles on them to have much of an opinion, but so far so good. Ride seems slightly firmer than Kojaks (which I've been commuting on for about a year); think I need to drop the pressure a bit.

  • i got around 150ml per tyre on my 29er :-)

around 50-60 on my 30mm specialized roubaixes

  • I got like 20ml in S-Ones because they were holding pressure with no sealant. Last ones I did were hypers and i got like 50ml in because they were big and not holding pressure very well

  • Where in London stocks tubeless sealant and injectors?

Or even small bottles of sealant with a nozzle that can be injected once valve core is removed.

  • What tape should I use for DTSwiss XR 331 rim? It's tubeless compatible but I'll probably just run tubes in it for now as it's running Crazy Bob tyres.

  • I have some 16mm Velox but it doesn't look like it will fit that neatly and I might want to try tubeless if I use this on dirt.

  • Might as well use Stans/TESA/Gorilla/any other tubeless tape, will work for both then.

  • Am I likely to find that in a local bike shop?

  • What tape should I use for DTSwiss XR 331 rim?

DT 23mm tape TVX2310S29812S or complete kit TVK2310S29812S

  • Depends which one. Halfords or roadie-douchebag shops, maybe not. Evans or anything that does mtb, yes. If not, Gorilla tape in any old hardware shop

  • Anyone tried tubeless on my Velocity A23 rims, I believe the newer US made rims are tubeless ready Stans yellow tape, but perhaps not the older ones, but I am not sure how to tell.

Also am I right in saying the risk of trying standard tyres tubeless is minor burping and sidewalls being too porous or is it major tyre blowing off at speed.

There seems to be conflicting information and I did see a couple of sites suggesting the A23s rim profile (which is horrendous for getting tyres on and off) is specifically designed to allow one to use standard tyres in a tubeless set up. I would likely be using with wider >35mm tyres at lower <60psi, am I going to die?

  • Everyone is going to die at some point.

  • @dancing james from tubeless tyres? I had heard they were getting more popular!

  • Personally I wouldn't dick about with a conversion set up when it comes to road stuff.

Newer a23s were supposed to work tubeless though

  • Yeah reasonably sure the rims are ok, probably won't risk road tyres but might try using some cx tyres on them

  • Currently running 30mm Mavic Yksion Elite tubeless tyres on my stans alpha 340 rims.. but i'm doing more road riding and want something a bit faster.. anyone recommend a decent 28mm tubeless road tyre?

  • Is that actually 23mm wide or is it just named that way as it is designed for their 23mm rims? Or both? The outer width is 23mm so 23mm wide tape seems, um, wide.
