  • Damn man, that ULEZ thing is savage. Talk about regressive - hardly eco friendly either with the likely amount of scrappage of vehicles from inside the zone that are in otherwise great shape and only very lightly used.

Nurse, I've found your next Porsche. Even the colour scheme is perfect. Classic too. No tax, no tickets.

  • Charm is a different kind of enjoyable I guess. I want every journey to be a drama. Maybe because I'm an attention seeker or a drama queen, who knows? I fully respect that not everyone wants that, and I recognise that a Boxster won't be that and also why you personally wouldn't enjoy the lack of finesse or luxurious enveloping.

However I disagree that a Golf or Fiesta is more fun to drive about town. Just wringing something's neck isn't "fun", it's just taking pleasure from redlining and reaching the limits of grip regardless of the way it happens. It's fun at first and in short doses but quickly gets tiring.

  • Fuck yes. That's my boy.

  • I've basically decided I'm getting a Boxster S.

  • I haz a 914. But it ain't half as cool as that. Get it.

  • Always been a sucker for a 968 Club Sport. Ain't never going to happen though unless #midlifecrisis #lottery #divorce

  • Thin the 3.0 RSR has a special shape. #Lotto

Or they'll be sold to people outside London who'll spend less time in jams.

  • Never understood the appeal or rational behind buying something thats Cat C Or D and fixing it as a means to save a little bit of money. The car will always have that category attached tot it and the sigma that comes with it. Plus there is always hidden costs that you end up spending and all you end up with is (in my experience) is something that falls short for roughly the same cost as a proper car.

The only caveat to this is if it's rare enough that you struggle to find a replacement. Usually in that case it doesn't get written off though...

  • I'd buy a Cat D to use as a track car or similar, that's it.

  • Love a 968 cs. But all the people I met at a recent track day would all go 944 turbo. Few engine mods, coil overs and corner weighted is apparently the driving nirvana

  • Fucking hell

  • If you plan on heavily modifying it, or else if you're able to do the work yourself and plan on running it into the ground I think it makes sense.

With motorbikes it often makes a lot of sense as often it's body work related and they seem to become insurance write-offs very easily. Plus people often want to modify them. The difference with cars is that there are so many cheap ones anyway.

  • It's ok. Porsche aren't Italian.

  • Sorry Mr BRM. No more teutonic car chat.
Except for the amazing but ratty 2002 I saw parked today. Very nearly left an offer on the window.

  • Too late - I'm out.

  • Sandy Down garage- £3,000
    Impact Bodywork- £6,000
    KDS Keltec- £13,000

All prices for the same request for quote.

  • And, on a different note, they need to drop the engine to change the AOS as the bolts are too corroded to get the unit off with the engine in place, god-fucking-damnit.

Still, the borescope and leakdown tests seem to indicate that we're ok:

    LD= Leak Down Compression

    Cylinder 1 4% LD 100PSI
    Cylinder 2 2 % LD 98PSI
    Cylinder 3 4% LD 105%
    Cylinder 4 6% LD 100%
    Cylinder 5 6% LD 90%
    Cylinder 6 2% LD 90%

So that's the engine rebuild off the menu, likely to have been a hydraulic lifter taking a few seconds to pump up, so there's that.

  • They're going to split the engine from the transmission whilst it's all out and check the clutch, it's another £50 but I thought we may as well. Fuck.

  • I think I can imagine what your next post on this matter will be about...

  • They asked if I wanted to change the expansion vessel, as an "whilst we're in there" type job.

    • Is it cracked? No, looks fine.
    • Ok, how much? Well, £400 for the bottle and an hours work to fit, plus the VAT.
    • Let's leave it for now

  • Did you got for the £53 version of this in the end?

  • Yep.

  • Have I told you about the £215 resistor?
