In other news nice dusk run spotting bats, passed this near the end which seemed appropriate for the run.

I'm 9 weeks into my training plan for my first marathon, picked up a manky flu bug which has left me devoid of the will to live. I've lost a week of training.
I was up to 18 miles on my long run, do I just pick up where I left off? I am strong enough to start again next week.. -
• #15411
@merak I would say pick up the long run where you left off but maybe have a week of steady running rather than any intervals or sessions. How much longer do you have? 7 or 9?
I'm still injured after London with a low grade calf tear.
Our (mine and @Philpub) club, Kent AC, have just launched our new end of the summer season race. The Ladywell 10000 will have six seeded races over 10000m at Ladywell Arena, Catford on Sunday 3rd September. It's a great opportunity to make a summer of hard training pay off. For now you can join the facebook and strava groups and email ladywell10000@gmail.com for more information.

Nice, I've never done a 10k race before, might come along!
Physically seem to be recovering well, did a gentle trot on Tuesday, then as I'm down in Cornwall headed out on some of my favourite trails on Thursday and was amazed how close I was to my personal bests so headed out yesterday to try and get as many of the course records as I could.
Was pretty pleased to take 1 minute 10 of the existing record for a 5k segment, given that I've tried pretty hard on the segment in the past but it begs the question what went wrong last weekend..
I can only think it was a combination of dehydration as I wasn't prepared for how busy London is, and wasn't positioning myself well for the water stations, and mental when I lost thebpacer just as doubts started setting in. I think in future I'll do more hard long runs midriff midweek training, but seriously honking about taking on a small marathon in the next few weeks to try to do a race that is somewhere close to what I'm capable of.

Last pre-marathon run out today. 6 miles at what I hope will be approximately marathon pace. And I went up a big hill.

@5awyr which marathon? sorry if i have missed it earlier. How did it feel?
@Sainsburys_Ed you should try 25 laps of lactate heaven at least once. I'm going to do it for a second time. Sounds like you are pretty fit and London didn't quite happen. The crowds and emotional pressure can do funny things as well. Milton Keynes has a marathon soon, i think?

a week is fine. just carry on as originally intended.

Milton Keynes, on Monday morning!

21.52 (chip time, 30 second headstart for everyone) with the double pushchair at Bexley today. Pretty narrow, hilly, partially off road and over 400 people made it a tougher proposition than last week's one.
I'm pacing a friend to sub 20 next week at Barking with the kiddies again.
Currently training for a track 5k in July which will be my first ever track race. I'm looking forward to seeing how many times I get lapped!

Brilliant. That's the one then @Sainsburys_Ed... fingers crossed for light drizzle and grey clouds.
Is that the Orion races @doubleodavey? ALways choose seeded track races, much like the Ladywell 10000. :D

I have just registered my interest. Presumably the Ladywell 10k would go on Pof10?
It is the Orion one, my local track as luck would have it
-
• #15420
yes, all our club championships and associated open races go on Po10.

Have decided in the bexhill marathon, seafront and 4 10k ish laps, around 30'finishers last year. One week of training, one week taper then race.
Think my training buddy might join me for 30k or so to avoid loneliness!

The Ladywell 10,000 will go on Po10 as long as I remember to e-mail the relevant licence application to UKA. :)
I'm a couple more easy 5 milers into achilles recovery and things seem fine so I should be able to start building up again this week. I'm in no major hurry to get back up to speed, other than having a low-key 10k on 11th June to celebrate my new V45 status two days after my birthday. The Ladywell 10,000 may well be my target race for the Autumn. It's a good event for a flattering age ranking because so few idiots attempt to do it... sorry, I mean there aren't many around. ;) I've only done two to date, the first one being the nearest I've come to pulling out just cos it felt so horrid ("17 laps still to go?!...") but the second one I nailed, and it's a very satisfying one to get right when you're on form.

Ran the Hackney Half Marathon at 7:28 min/mile yesterday. Last year I couldn't even dream of running a 5k at that pace. Funny now that I can, all I want to do is get even faster now, there's always another echelon to aspire to.
London Marathon ballot opens today, good luck to everyone vying for a place.
