I didn't an all year commute on an mt07 and it was fine (with heated grips)
-
• #9578
Cool, i haven't heated grips (amateur i know) but do have knuckle guards (well worth fitting if you haven't)
Moving house soon so after that I'll be eyeing up a new bike.
It's either going to be a used Africa Twin (modern era) or a MT09.Hope the cheque lands soon

If you're looking for something comparable to the Africa twin, I'd go for the Tracer 900. All the get up and go of the MT09 but with the practically of the twin

Right... Chips are down.
I can get 7.5% off of any Triumph.
Realistically, I think it would have to be a tiger 800.
That would make the XRT £10,080 compared to the Tracer 900 at £9,100 (once I've added heated grips etc).
Is the Tiger really worth another £1k? It's got less horses, and reviews seem a little mixed.

Tracer. No question.

• #9582
This was my feeling too
-

I'd give both a ride back to back if you can.
Are they both leased? If so how's the depreciation? Triumph's tend to hold their value a bit better than jap bikes.

How much are MT10s? Reviews seem to be very favorable. Nothing succeeds like excess,etc...

£££
I've just put a deposit on a '17 MT09 Tracer in black.
Will decide over the weekend if I just pay for it all in cash or finance some.
Picking it up next Friday.

I like the green colour of the tracer 900.
Tried faffing with their configurator but couldn't find heated grips as an option, is there a factory option? -
• #9587
OEM heated grips can be fitted by any Yamaha dealer. They're about £150.
They're integrated into the menus so no extra buttons or visible cables which is nice.
Make sure you look at the led flasher+ indicators. They're split so front and rear running lights as well as indicators:

Have you been to speedway before? It's definitely worth a trip out and an awesome spectacle just know that the facilities are a bit more basic compared to if you go to one of the world cup/championships rounds.

Love it. Chain or not.
-
• #9591
Cheers. Not been before but looks pretty entertaining. I'm imagining the facilities are along the lines of some non-league football I've been to, portaloos and cans of carling.

Ahh then you're in for a treat, the noise combined with the smell of castor oil and methanol is something you won't forget. I think Rye House is actually slightly more upmarket than portaloos and there is a concrete toilet block! And maybe a chuck wagon if you're lucky. I've not been for a few years and sadly can't do this Monday but I'd be well up for a trip up another time. Or to Lakeside to see the Hammers.
I had a trip to Poland a few years ago to see Woffinden win the 2013 world champs in Torun which was one of the best holidays I've ever done and all in it cost less than a train to Cardiff and a ticket to see the UK round.

Do they have the sidecars too? Those things are mental. Definitely a great way to spend an evening.

• #9594
Right- I'm going to give this a go - will have to find out whats going on in the Midlands area.

Have a go on a speedway bike....itis fun.

So I've opted for a Yamaha 660 Tenere. I'm on route to collect it at the moment, I've stopped for sleep beer and food. It's a 1000 mile round trip to get it.
The ones you want are invariably never on your doorstep. It'll be just as the pictures suggest......... -

Thanks man - looks like the Robins are just down the road from where I work.
-
• #9599
Keep looking at them, cool little bikes for an adventure.

I'm on my way to pick it up! I live in Scotchland, I've stopped in Swindon with about 50 miles to go in the morning. It better be a good one.
The new MT09 looks the bollocks.
Styling is more MT10.
I understand aesthetics is a personal thing, but i am considering the new 9 later this year, but not sure on its practicality for an all year commuter
