  • It sure does matter, especially for collector/show bikes where it's more about the looks than durability.
    I for example have around ten bikes, but only three of them are really used on a daily basis. The rest is just used once or twice per month, why invest in high end tyres on these?

    I personally find show bikes with cheap tyres look a bit crap - they end up spending a lot of money on frame and components, clean and polish it, but then end up putting cheap crap tubs like Vittoria Rally's on it.

    Anyhoo, if you want the trad tyre 'look' for clinchers you can get Veloflex Corsa/Record from Ribble for £50 for 2. Cheap, look good and ride good.

  • The Challenge tyres I mentioned for sure do absolutely not look cheap, they have a very fine, classic typography on the sidewalls, they are handmade proper clinchers, they have a nice classic pattern. Not sure what advantage the Veloflex would have in that use case, while being 2x the price
