I was joking. Almost everyone who quotes a number in the PM/training threads never tests so their figures are rubbish. Test your FTP is my stock answer for any question that mentions a PM. :)

Indeed.
But given the mileage he's riding, even if his ftp is a little off, it won't make much difference.
But my opinion is afyer 4 days of solid riding, the whole PMC thing just doesn't really work as intended. It can be useful, but you need to learn to read it differently.

I don't even look at my bike let alone WKO after a 4 day + ride.
-
• #1580
Don't know how Steve does it.
-
• #1581
I know. I hate my life after a day in the saddle.
-
• #1582
Ha! I don't mind it. But I can't do it often. It takes it out of me mentally. Hence training how I do. If I did long rides a lot, I'd lose the will to race them.

Yeah, I felt no qualms bailing on riding LEL this weekend. Second day I was going slow due to the wind and mood and fucked it off before I sapped too much motivation.

Had an unplanned encounter with Steve today... Gave him a good cheer!

2 days running!! Yesterday I was in the car, but this time I spotted him while out on the bike. I asked if he was ok and he said he would be glad of some company so I rode with him for 15 minutes or so. He seemed super strong and really positive about his current attempt, and he was completely happy to chat.
I've never met him before, but what a lovely and kind man.
Go Steve!!

I'm starstruck on your behalf

Love Steve.

I hope Steve will eventually be recognised as a major hero in the mould of Graeme Obree for doing this.
Up-to-date visualisations don't seem to be appearing on YACF but here:

Also a request I just saw in that thread (from Steve's Facebook page):
Steve's on-board camera has given up the ghost so we're looking for anyone who has a spare one laying around that he could use. There is a danger that it may not be returned, just so you know (Steve has a history of destroying tech). Please PM if you have anything suitable - one-button action cam would be ideal. (Posted by KT)
This may well have been sorted by now.

Steve has a history of destroying tech
Anyone who rides more than a commute + club run in the UK could probably make the same claim. When are we going to get MIL SPEC cycling electronics?
-
• #1591
Shhh, they're just trying to build his credentials as an English eccentric. :)
-
• #1593
Someone (rather overly rich) once told me that the difference between madness and eccentricity is the amount of money you have.
Mind you, he also claimed that his dad was in some book of British eccentric's for collecting push lawnmowers.

I've seen Steve on the road a couple of times over the past week. Is he still going for the record? Has anyone been keeping up with his progress?
-
• #1595
looking at his strava he is still riding.. currently 60.665 for this year..

• #1596
Really hope Steve's doing well. He's website is not great and I'm not on Strava. Is he on track?
I can't even bothered to walk let alone cycle any where right now, let alone the mamouth mileage he's churning out. Steve I salute your galant efforts. -

He got hit from behind by a car today, a glancing blow but was still taken to hospital. Nothing broken apparently but has been told to rest for three days.
I wish him a speedy recovery.

• #1598
Poor guy :-( It was a moped that got him on the last attempt, right?
-
• #1599
Yes, moped last time and broken bones. Hopefully he'll get back on the bike soon as time is miles.

Heal up soon, Steve!
I'd presume just before he started.
It's around 24tss/h. Which is about what I can manage fatigued.
