  • A bit late - but when I went from a 15mm internal width rim to a 19mm my 25mm labelled Veloflex Corsas went from a measured 23.5mm to 25.4mm. For me that would mean a pressure drop of about 15PSI so pretty significant, though granted it's a big step up in rim width. If you want wider tires then the best thing to do is obviously to buy wider tires.

    He's talking about going from 17mm to 19mm, which I also concur, very little difference to tell.

  • Yep, you can expect about 1mm extra tire width. Not worth buying new wheels over.

  • Ordered a pair. As much as i might try to talk myself into something cheaper, i don't the point scrimping on tyres.

  • Do you have latex tubes that fit those deep HED rims with 26mm cottons?
    If so which? I notice a lot of latex tubes have short valves is all...

  • I use Challenge with removable valve extenders, or you could use Vittoria with permanent extenders.

  • Right....I'm after what I feel doesn't exist so I'm asking the hive mind. I want a tyre that is bigger than 700x42 and smaller than 29x2.0 . Rolls good on the road and isn't a complete slick (Specialized Fatboy) as I do venture down the odd path. Thoughts?

  • TBH, a Schwable G-One in the biggest size is probably best (40c).

  • Anyone on here got the 44mm Compass Snoqualmie Pass tires? I'm considering sizing up from their 35mm tires (which actually measure about 39mm) but want to know what they really measure as.

  • They come up at 43mm on my hunt 4season, not sure of the internal width of the rims off the top of my head.

    I waver between loving them and hating them. As tubeless they've been shit, but that could be due to the orange seal they insist you use. They might be fine with stan's. They just never seemed to seal properly.

    The grip is ok on the road, not great in the wet but comparing a large volume/low pressure tyre to G+ Corsas (that I have on my summer whip) which rail around corners and are great in the wet is apples and oranges. I've nothing to fairly compare the Sno's to in that sense so they might be decent.

    They roll superbly on dry tarmac and have survived a winter of commuting and club runs and barely look a week old.

    If there's anything else you want to know just holler.

  • Thanks for the measurement, that is useful to know. I'm surprised by your experience though. Since I switched to Orange Seal I have found it very effective - I have some nasty slashes in my tires that have been sealed without me even noticing them. My Jon Bons do sometimes lose a few PSI overnight though. Is that what you mean?

    The grip blows me away too - going down wet, winding, 15% lanes in Exmoor covered in cowshit and fallen leaves without skipping a beat. I do find that they are very sensitive to pressure though - just a few PSI stray of 46 and I really feel it.

  • I've had about 5 small punctures on mine, 3 rear, 2 front. All small, a mm or so. None have sealed, all have just bubbled sealant out gradually until the tyre is completely flat. It's slow, two happened on my 5 mile commute and I got home fine before the pressure loss was too much to ride. The rest were out on long rides and resulted in a tube needing to go in and me calling it a fucking piece of shit over and over again.

    It might be the tyres, the sealant or the rims. It's my first time tubeless so until I try a different tyre and/or sealant I can't really fairly judge. I think @amey has had similar grip experiences with Compass tyres.

  • See it's stories like this that make me stick with tubes... just sounds like an absolute ball ache running tubeless.

  • Exactly what I've done. I'm willing to give it another go with Stan's, but if the same happens again I'll happily stick with tubes.

    In fairness, sticking a tube in didn't take any longer than fixing a normal puncture. It was a touch messier but I packed latex gloves with that in mind so wasn't a problem.

  • Just stick with Schwalbe when going tubeless and you'll be fine

  • Clement Strada LGG 32s fitted. I like them, but a group ride last night was [un]surprisingly hard work. Wrong bike selected.
