  • Frame just about finished. Should be with me in just over a week.

Also got a nice Ti seatpost to finish off the build.

Forks are being stripped and painted with an exciting reflective design... More to come over the next week or so.

  • exciting.

  • Hot.

  • That looks lush ! Looking forward to follow this.

To add to the wolftooth wide range talk, I run a 50/34 11-42 10 speed sun race cassette with wolf goatlink and ultegra med cage. Haven't skipped a beat.

  • Using a £450 fork but hydro is too expensive?

I put cable discs on my Planet X London Road because it was a really cheap build, with the exception of the wheels, which were still cheap for what they are. If I was spending Ti money and £450 on a fork, I wouldn't be mucking about with cable discs, not with how readily available hydro stuff is now. My 2 cents.

  • Me too - I'm 95kg and have Spyres on my commuter doing 2x20 km a day in ALL kinds of weather. Works great, easy to maintain

  • Cool yer jets - I've gone with Hydro!

I wouldn't go with the same fork if I were starting from scratch, given the other options available now. But couldn't sell the fork so not stressing too much about it.

@sykodrama - that's good to know. Isn't goatlink designed for mtb?

  • Fair do's, good choice I think.

  • Yes sorry, my bad

    Its the roadlink. Good stuff.

  • Took delivery of a set of Hed Belgium+ wheels. SON 28 front, Hope pro 2 evo rear.

    Thanks @skinny!

  • .

  • Hoping to have the build finished by this weekend.

  • Forks still being painted. Hopefully finish soon. Bike is in shop getting BB and cranks fitted (don't have the praxis tool to fit it myself)

Going to order the dynamo lights soon but I need to figure out how to mount the front light.

My carbon fork has a mudguard hole in the back of the fork but not the front. Is there a bracket I can use to mount to the hole then curve round under the crown, with another mounting hole for the actual light?

  • Lights arrived.

  • ^awesome! do they do a dynamo that matches?

  • I have not seen such a bracket. Would be easy to make.
    Or look on sjs.

Personally I'd consider using sugru, that stuff is very strong.

  • I've got front and rear matchy lights but hubs are plain black. You never go full ano. I do, however have matching cable ends ;)

@skinny - there's a place called Maklab here in Glasgow that does stuff with 3d printing and sugru etc. Once the fork is finished being painted I think I will pay them a visit.

  • Yeah. Otherwise go to a hardware shop and find a suitable sided aluminium bracket and then dremel and bend as needed.

  • Forks have been finished. Sneak peak of the reflective detailing here -

  • 50%

    Rest tomorrow I think.

  • hey-looks like a very sweet ride!

you could mount with something like this round the fork steerer, possibly even sandwiched under the crown race:

Busch and Muller sell lots of different mounting brackets for fairly cheap so I'm sure they'll have something

  • that looks perfect, if it is strong enough for the fairly beefy light.

  • probably strong enough (definitely stronger than 3D printed anything from Maklab) but on second look don't think it'll be compatible with your fork though : /

something along those lines but bigger? My last dynamo set up I actually stole some meccano from my nephew and bent that into shape with a vice and some pliers-the shame!

  • Subbed

  • Yeah, I just realised that my steerer is too big for it.

I suspect that a homemade version will be the ultimate solution to this problem.
