From experience: the centre stand is really good if your bike is parked and gets driven into by a van driver who didn't see it. Side stand means it's more likely to just drop. Centre stand it'll just skid.

I'm only a sample of one but this is incorrect.
Van driver hit mine in Jan when it was on the centre stand. Span it 180 degrees and knocked it over.
Maybe I'll downgrade that to 'at low speeds' then. This guy just reversed into it and I reckon it'd have been upright if it wasn't on the sidestand.
