Might need to invest in new hubs I'm afraid.
Or you could just get the Planet X WTB i-23 rims to Rattlesnake hubs for like £160.
I have them, they're good value!

I have a couple of friends working in bike shops and they swear by the Taurus 19s
http://www.ryde.nl/taurus-19
They are a little heavier, but really solid. -

Might be getting myself an Equilibrium disc soon - it apparently fits up to a 28c x 700c tyres at the moment.
If I fit it out with 650b (thinking 38C), would I be able to get away with 700c mudguards that are made for up to 28c tyres or will the extra width from the tyres foul the 700c mudguards?
Bit of a specific question, but I don't think the Equilibrium would take any larger mudguards.

several options here.

You might have more luck if you swap out the fork? I think there's at least one forum bike running 42s on this fork:
Edit: it's only £20 more new actually, and you get to choose your offset.
even the steel Genesis fork looks considerably narrower:

thanks! a few good options there.
these stood out in particular https://www.cnc-bike.de/product_info.php?cPath=39_1133&products_id=16091
seems crazy light!? i want to use these wheels for some lightish touring and commuting, probably with gravelking 1.75 tyres.
-
• #1234
That does seem crazy light, but 36h should compensate a bit.
I would probably go for the trace trail 25. Wider, offset, stronger and still very light. -
• #1235
trace trail 25 does look nice. is that too wide?? i cant imagine wanting any tyre bigger than 1.75" and "internet charts" suggest 44mm is a min tyre size for 25mm internal width rims...
-
• #1236
Internet charts are very conservative.
From my own experience in rims and tires, here's what I noted.- if the tire width is really close - or less than the the rim outer width, the sidewalls are more exposed to cut, scratches;
- the rim is a bit more exposed - a heavy hit hit like a pothole can ding the rim a little, more worrying than a pinch-flat
- can be dangerous when take fast turns (their is a risk you ride "out" of the thread and slighlty on the casing, resulting a sudden loss of grip)
I currently ride a 32mm tire on 28mm outer-width rims (a few years ago, these rims would be considered MTB/Enduro only), and it works fine.

thanks! good to know. very close to clicking the buy button. does it matter that its an offset rim for the front wheel too? i guess a disc front wheel needs to be dished slightly anyways

Depends on the hub geometry, I guess.

I have built a new 650B wheelset so I thought it might be good to cross post here.
- Bontrager Duster 27.5'' TLR PV 32H Black Rims - 28mm wide outside / 23mm inside
- OddityK Flip Flop Black Track Hubs, 3/8" axles, 100mm/120mm spacing
- Araya Rebound ATB Road Spokes St Steel P/Gauge Black 272mm & 16mm black brass nipples
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/303696/
£90
Here is what a 700c wheel looks like in the back of the dropouts:
So the 650B/27.5 rim sits back around 2cm (when the wheel axle is sat as far in the dropouts as possible) in comparison to the 700c, giving you extra space radially for a wider/fatter tyres.
You also gain around 1cm in lateral width as the rim effectively sits further back along the drive stays. - Bontrager Duster 27.5'' TLR PV 32H Black Rims - 28mm wide outside / 23mm inside

Is anyone looking to offload a set of disc hub, shimano/Sram 10spd fit 650b wheels for road/ tow path gravelly riding? Looking to dip my toe in this thing, max budget £200
Thanks -

Canyon have redesigned their women's range, including 650b in the two smallest sizes. Hooray.

Preach 🙌🏼

Found a pair of those schwalbe hs 159 tyres mega cheap locally, so the girlfriend's bike now has tan walls. Looks pretty smart IMO.
75g lighter than then stock tyres, but a wee bit skinnier.

No experience with those, but these are another option.

650b latex inner tube that will fit a 42mm tyre.
Does this exist? Can't find one -
• #1248
I guess you can get away with a 26", no?
-
• #1249
I guess so. I'll have a look at those.
-
• #1250
Actually change of plan. It turns out that the inner tubes I was using previously (Schwalbe SV14A XX Light) are lighter than the latex ones I've found anyway.
yeah everything seems to be mainly 32 or 28. i want to try and use my existing hubs!
