  • Yes. More overlap means more chance of unburnt fuel reaching the exhaust. Particularly at low revs.

  • Speaker upgrade done, quality difference is pretty big!

  • Some LONG duration cams here. Rumpity-Rump.

  • I have 280 Schrick Group A cams in mine, I had to have the head machined and re-built with solid lifters. It's lumpy as until about 3k and it pulls clean to redline but you really need mappable ECU and verniers to make it work nicely

  • I'll have to dig out the cam card for what's in the fury. The temptation (as the engine is coming out anyways is to go a little bigger,) especially if I'm going to put solid roller lifters in. The heads will support up to 800hp or so. Alas 3.23s in the back with a relatively loose converter, it might end up being a menace for cruising around. I should swap them out for 3.73s but the centre sections are expensive and I really don't know how to set up rear ends. One of the dark arts.

  • One for Dammit.

  • But then:

  • Seriously? This is like a relationship thread now.

  • Isn't the engine suppose to be in the back?

  • Yes, Ed - radiators are in the nose, however. The front of the car gets more airflow than the back, surprisingly.

  • Although I am hopeful that this is washer fluid, not coolant.

  • It's coolant. You'll occasionally get a washer fluid leak, but usually it's in front of the rear wheel. Rads go all the time, there's no mesh to stop crap getting in and it wedges between the air con condenser and rad and rots them both away. They're not horribly expensive, about £130 I think.

  • Did the volvo get new paint?

  • Nope I just washed and waxed it today.

Hefty - I think it's coming from the headlamp washer, I checked the coolant and it's at max on the expansion tank, and possibly more importantly it's orange whilst my washer fluid is pink.

  • I don't want it to be coolant.

  • Turns out one of my retired neighbours has a 'sunny-Sunday-only' car.

    'L'-reg Triumph Stag.

  • Sounded rorty.
    I'll have to ask him.

  • It was indeed the CRB, and, unfortunately, the flywheel :( Still, having just driven her back from the garage, the difference is noticable - much lighter clutch.

for the record, I meant "catastrophic failure suddenly unable to drive the car", not "needs replacing" CRB failure.... whether or not you needed a flywheel is up in the air.

  • Hefty - I think it's coming from the headlamp washer, I checked the coolant and it's at max on the expansion tank, and possibly more importantly it's orange whilst my washer fluid is pink.

    Ooh. Headlamp washers. Fancy.

I've never had an early 996 with those, but I expect it'll all be plastic pipes and T-pieces so one will have split or popped off another. They'll be cheap. Taking off the bumper to get to them won't.

  • I'd rather it be that than a rad because that would mean getting the car recovered, plus the rads are new.

  • Has anyone had any experience with getting large parts shipped from Europe?

Guy in the Netherlands has a fibreglass boot lid for my rally car, says he won't ship it because it's "too big".

I have had panels shipped from Germany before, i am tempted to say if he can pack it i'll arrange a courier but not sure where to start if he agrees...

  • How big? If it will fit within 1.2x1m, I'd get it palleted across. Trickier if it's not a business though.

    ^^That's a good option too.

  • one of my favourite mini-6pt memories is my dad picking me up from school in his white stag (blue upholstery, m reg). glorious sunny day, roof down. drive home was only about 3 minutes, but I think he was just happy it was running.

  • I can echo that.
Back in the late '70s when I was a student,
my Dad found me a Summer job though one of his mates,
who was an Engineering Supervisor at a Manpower Services Commission training centre at Alperton/Perivale.
Don't know how he could afford to buy or run it, but he had a convertible Stag,
and as long as I was at a certain road junction, by a certain time, he could offer me a lift.
Job only lasted a few weeks, (i found something that paid a bit more), but there were a couple of sunny mornings when the roof was off,
    and,
it felt like ......... I don't really know what!
