Could I use a centre pull brake caliper on a standard road frame? Or would the reach of the calipers be a bit to much?
Changing from side pull to centre pull doesn't affect the reach or, importantly in your case, the tyre clearance under the brake caliper.

So basically if I can fit 28s under a side pull brake, centre pulls will also work fine..thanks sugar
to max the tyre clearance with current brake hole position use the 5800 brake I think they have the best clearance due to the curved shape.
