  • I'm running the wi dos eno freewheel,on a surly hub, on my Pompetaminr, with a truvativ mtb crank. Using two chainrings works a treat, gives me a reasonable road gear and an off-road gear. The truvtiv crank is 73mm and comes with two 2.5 spacers so it'll work on a standard 68 shell I've put both on one side which makes the chainline pretty much perfect.

  • My brakes on the pomp need replacing and I have s500 levers on there, I love the look of TRP CX8.4, but that is pricey, what cheaper-but better looking/quality than standard black Clarkes v brakes are there?
    thx

  • Tektro RX5, same length than trp but fraction of the cost. Looks pretty basic but they're cheap and work like a charm. Have a set in my own pompino.

e: i've also had trp 8.4's, and wouldn't say they performed any better, only better looking.

  • Awesome. So as long as I have a 68mm BB shell, and a 73mm crank, I should have a bit of room for manouvre for a wider chainline? Thanks, that makes sense.

Did you go for a double, or a triple and just use the outer rings? The build that I'm emulating has an inside chainring stuck on the outside of the crank, which narrowed the gap between the 2 chainlines. Did you get up to similar witchcraft? `Not sure if the same game can be played with MTB parts. I've had a look at chainrings, I think I can get what I need, ratio-wise. The only truvative chranks I can find are 175mm, but cheaps, so I will probably venture down that path.

More searching needed. My poor computer is struggling with my feeble google skills and clueless crankset knowledge. I had over 70 tabs open on my browser earlier, a clear sign that I have as good a grasp on this as Peter O'Hanraha-Hanrahan has on political journalism.

    The hunt continues...

  • Hey mate I've got some brand new RX5's that didn't fit on Mrs Batt's Dawes.

Let me know if you're interested. I think I paid £34 for the pair, and would take £30. Can deliver within London.*

    *Zones 1-3 ...

  • Ok cheers mate, I'll pm you

  • Readers. I still need to dial my position, but it rides nicely (much more than expected !)

  • Forks work a treat on that. Nicely done

  • Hip hop functional! Very nice, pink tape works surprisingly well

  • wow it look super good. how long is the custom fork? what's the rake?

  • The fork was made for my Big Block (broken, replaced by the Pomp). So it's a bit shorter that the original.
    375mm A-C, 32mm rake.
The bottom bracket sits a bit lower than on my other bikes, but I didn't experience any pedal strike (yet). Handling feels okay.

  • Rad, lots of nice Pompinos lately

  • Dope!!! Probably one of my favourites.. can you make a components' list? Thanks!

  • a quick pedal room search, on one pompino and date added, username usually works too, most have the same :)

  • OT: brand new pompino fork for sale (40€ negotiable)

  • Looks nice, and what an excellent photo.

  • I'm using a firex mtb triple as a double. It's a bit limiting on the tooth count but I run super spinny gears anyway as it's really hilly where I live and I'd rather spin on flats, coast down hills and have a gear I'm capable of climbing in.

  • Needs new bars and silver crank set.

But it's so comfy right now ! :D

  • Something like these ?

  • I think at 420mm, the a2c of these Volume Fu Manchu forks is too long for the Pomp?

I've been thinking about building mine into a fixed bruiser almost fgfs-esque build and @Lobos 's bike is exactly how I'd like it to look.

  • Yeah that thing is killer, thinking of picking up a pomp as an intermediate "bruiser" between Fat tire FGFS bike and skinny tire bikes
