Time trialling will be dead in a few years. What a fucking barrier to entry for new people. Ah sorry mate, of elbows are 3cm in front... huh!?
How boring.
I don't think it'll die, it's still a great entry point to racing. Turn up, pay £4-5, pin a number on, rider for 10/25/50+ miles and have tea and cake at the end. Took my nephew to his first evening 10 last week and he loved it.
It's ripe for someone to offer an alternative (on many levels) to CTT events though.

Yeah I was being a bit over the top.
Time trialling is great. CTT are not.
-
• #15029
I could still submit a complaint that you are in breach of the 3cm rule.
Then what? What if you're 2.9cm? What if you're 3.1cm? It's fucking stupid making a rule decided on a photo that can't actually be measured.
Either go UCI compliant jigs for every bike or get this stupid rule to fuck.
-
• #15030
I hope it is appealed. Then they will need to make a case for how they can measure 3cm from a photo. Which they can't. Then we can loose the rule.
But no doubt that won't happen.

• #15031
I'm buying a size down bike, riding 20cm superman position out front and then I'll submit complaints about every other rider in the field whilst lodging a protest against mine. Good luck sorting that mess out.
"You're clearly 3cm+"
"No, I'm not"
"Yes, you are"
"No I'm not"
"Um.." -
• #15032
"No im not"
"Okay whatever you say, but we're boss and you're banned from competing for 1 year anyway. Because you look funny"That's the issue. They can kind of do as they please.
-
• #15033
Is there a picture/story in not seeing? Who are you on about?
-
• #15034
Then you can go to CAS and have their decision overturned because they're illegally preventing you from competing. I mean, if all the fucking dopers can do it, why can't someone who bought a size Small frame?
RRA events might see some renewed interest.
I'm already jaded with the aero arms race aspect of the sport. It's less about pain and more about who spent more time/money aero testing.

Oh, do keep up boy!

3cm rule thread on TTF

I've never done any aero testing ;)
Just push them bastard pedals harder mate. Or find a once in a life float day.
-
• #15038
It's not just the testing, funny sock guy.

• #15040
Haters gon hate.
-
• #15041
Then you can go to CAS
No you don't, because CTT does not subscribe to any alternative dispute resolution. Once the national committee has banned you, you stay banned. A bit like here, where you can't get the supreme court to reinstate your ability to post on the forum once velocio has banned you; you sign up to all the rules, including the (possibly flawed) rules of conduct for disciplinary tribunals.

Innovators gonna innovate.

Fine, spoilsport. Instead, rival TTing organisations start to appear...
How do they ban you if they can't measure your position?
If they can't measure your position, how can they even flag you as in breach of the rule? -

How do they ban you if they can't measure your position?
They don't. Fortunately, they can measure your position, but only to a low accuracy. The case in question is not in any doubt, but there's plenty of room for doubt out to about 5cm, depending on the quality of the evidence, so I'm not expecting to see any highly contentious proceedings simply because the event secretary or district committee will say "No Further Action" if they are presented with protests over positions which are too close to call.
-
• #15045
Sweet.. so I can move out to 5cm? :)
-
• #15046
rival TTing organisations start to appear
Why? I stood by the A31 pre-Christmas and didn't see anybody in the first half of the field who warranted closer inspection for 3cm compliance. The people who are out of regulation are a small number of noobs who have picked the wrong frame, and a similar number of people at the pointy end who are deliberately pushing the envelope. The market for a free-for-all amounts to about 1% of the people who are currently riding TTs. The vociferous cheats on TTF are making it sound like the end of the world, but enforcement of the regulations is going to have no effect on most testers.

• #15047
so I can move out to 5cm?
If you like, you're very unlikely to get DQed for it.
-
• #15048
I don't know, I'm just angry alright. Let me whinge about this like the TTF seems to have done for the last 6 months while I've been hibernating.
-
• #15049
The only pics I've got side-on are from the 24hr and I look fine there but I have a slightly longer stem on now so I'm going to need to check it, if I actually bother entering an event this year.
Same as the sign off forms which I didn't even know about until I dropped into TTF a month or so ago.
Any other 2017 rules changes I need to know about?
-
• #15050
You have to sign out after you've raced
In which case happy days, as I might be able to get a ride on the E2!! LOL
I didn't know anything about the 3cm rule until I'd been TTing a couple of years. I think last year I was right on the limit, even though I am just a mid-field chopper I have still cut my extensions down slightly for this season just to make sure.
From a 25 last September.
