  • If you're not too far down the snare drum rabbit hole; an envelope filter & an octave pedal would be a fun present for a bassist.

  • Neck-beard comb and new fedora to complete the package.

  • Alternatively, posh leather bass gig bag, either a Harvest or a Maruszczyk?

  • Thanks chaps. Shoulda said. He's an upright bass player. Drums is really his thing though. Def going to go with a snare i think. That blue sparkle Slingerland is stunning but $100 postage...

  • Went into my local to pick up a mooer shimverb as they were showing one in stock online. Turns out they were sold out, all the apologies etc, before I could leave he whips out a Strymon Bluesky and says that mooer is just a copy of this... JESUS! I'd never leave my room again if I had one, sounds amazing! Just need a few more ££

  • upright bass player

lifetime supply of elastoplasts and bengay®

  • The Slingerland Festival

  • thumbs up!

  • Had a play on the new 63 short scale bass yesterday. Like it a lot! Needs a bit of setting up tho. Annoyingly the truss rod adjustment is at the butt end of the neck meaning you need to take the neck off to adjust. Minor annoyance really but does make it a bit bit more fiddly.

In other truss-rod news, I tried to slacken off the truss rod on the Sigma to relieve the 1st fret buzz and realized that it's totally slack and can't be backed off at all. Bit annoying as I had it all set up for these strings. They're quite a low tension set but it's irksome as they've JUST achieved the state of perfect deadness I love and I wanted to record with them. With the top E buzzing that can't happen. Wondering about shimming the nut...

  • Love these strings. Maybe if I stick a heavier set on and wait another year....

  • Tune up a half step to increase tension? Obvs doesn't work for all situations but if you're starting something from a blank slate...

  • Unfortunately i'm inserting a new guitar track in a pre-existing production and it requires the open top E. Meh. I'v eordered some new strings. And some picks. And a new strap. And three wall-hangers. Damn you Strings Direct.

  • Glad you're liking the 63. It only came out to play occasionally in my ownership, but it's a nice thing.

  • Cheers man. Yep. Haven't plugged it in yet. Just plinked along to some ZZ Top. As you do.

  • Having a bit of house trouble atm and needing to sell a few bits.

Any interest in a Fender Jaguar sunburst, the Japanese version from around 2007. Looks bog standard with antique white pickups/trem bar ends, but the pickups are bareknuckle handwounds and they're wired in such a way that it'll become a humbucker if you flip the end switch. It's a real workhorse of a guitar and I love it but I also need a new boiler. Pretty good nick - few dinks but nothing major. £700

Also flogging my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III amp, beautiful clean 40w 1x12 (or 1x10, can't remember) combo. I reckon £400 is a decent price for pals.

Let me know if there's any interest and I'll put up a few pics.

  • Stick up a few pics Bref and i'll ask around. Too rich for me at the mo. Am currently saving for some studio kit too.

  • hoowee.

  • So 10 months ago I posted about wanting a 32" scale 1980s Squier Precision. It's taken this long to finally find one... in France.

Will it actually turn up? Drum roll.

  • Do you guys use a clean sound into your pedals?

I can't do it, I need some raunch in the amp otherwise it sounds shit to me... I know this isn't the way you're supposed to do it but it's the only way I feel comfortable playing... My clean sound is a Fender Twin with the volume on 10 and the master volume on about 4 (more like 2-3 for indoor levels), same deal on my AC15... On the Solton I never play on anything lower than 7-8 but mostly all the way up to 10... Pretty much filthy, but cleans up OK when you roll a bit off the guitar... And I can always play a bit lighter...

I don't get people using amps that sound so great when you push the tubes but only use them in piddly-widdly mode, what's the point?

  • PS BTW Here's the record I played on that's coming out on Record Store Day... Can't wait to hear the final mix, gotta say the rough mix sounded fucking shit... :|

  • New fender blues junior and a Moore green mile my epiphone dot never sounded so good :)

  • Preferably pre and power amps on the edge of breakup and my 15w Laney into a 4x12 does that perfectly at band practice volumes. Bit of slightly dirty boost to push it over the edge, delay repeats set really low so they're slightly cleaner than the direct sound and don't overwhelm (as clean as a DMM gets) and fuzz set to 'amp about to explode'. :D
