  • Thinking of getting the Pelago commuter for my Pre-Cursa for general day-to-day use and also for a little bit of light touring, and had a few questions.
Firstly, is the platform size on the smaller of the two racks adequate for day to day usage carrying bags/groceries/pizza, or would I be better off with the wider one?
Secondly, does the increased width of the larger rack make it more difficult to use with panniers (overlapping the tops of the panniers), and which panniers would you recommend to use with this rack.
    Cheers

According to a guy I spoke to recently, yes. Hard to lift the panniers off if you have an ortlieb style attachment.

  • I've toured twice last year, total of about 1200 miles, with ortlieb front panniers and the wider rack. To note, it is already narrower than minoura and (I think) soma.

There is a knack to getting the panniers on but I wouldn't say it was something that bothered me. As you can see, there is plenty of room between the platform and the panniers. I'd definitely recommend the wider as I've used a narrower platformed rack on tour before but the top was nowhere near as useful.

Problem with soma is its afaia its one piece so difficult to fit into a bike box for flights etc. Pelago packs flat.
