  • could always drive the arse off it over the weekend to get my moneys worth. who wants some bulgarian haribo?

  • Well - if you fancied seeing beautiful Norfolk, one of the most desirable and scenic areas of the UK, then I'd be happy to pay for whatever heavy oil you put in your engine?

There's a small matter of four wheels that you might bring back?

  • Does anyone here have a d1e license?

Looking to upgrade from B1 so I can fill the landy up with people and tow a trailer full of bikes. Is it too much effort to go through for non commercial reasons?

  • Does anyone here have a d1e license?

Yep, but by virtue of being an old git.

  • Snap

  • In the cluuuuuuub.

  • Behold, the single and only benefit of being old:

  • Mad jealous, looks like I'll have to
Do at least 2 more tests to get mine.

  • C1E looks cool, what can I get that fits that category?

  • Unimog with a flatbed and a 2 car box trailer?

  • The neighbours would be delighted.

  • What engine degreasers do you guys find work well? In the USA I came across gunk aerosol gel that was fantastic but when I ordered what was meant to be the same thing here it was fucking useless and I ended up using gt85 with better results.

  • It's fucking absurd. I too am old, passed the week before the theory test was introduced, and I was soon towing a massive enclosed car trailer behind a massive van through London with zero experience or knowledge. Looking back it was proper dangerous.

  • I tow a horse trailer (without passing any tests) and it's no piece of cake

  • Hippy!

  • No such license type here and the frigging trailers are RIDICULOUS. I've towed 10,000lbs of machine tools on a double axle trailer behind a 1970 Ford Pickup with (marginal) drum brakes. The trailer brakes were about the only thing slowing us down. I've never squinted so far in the distance to watch the traffic lights, it was like stopping a supertanker.

  • Similar here. Within 18 months of passing my test I was driving a 7.5 tonne truck through Central London, when the largest thing I'd driven before was a 1.6 Austin Maestro. Ah, the confidence of youth.

  • Edd tweeted a link to that Youtube video last night, I watched it then (as I'm working from home due to plague) had Wheeler Dealers on in the background today, followed by a whole slew of American car shows.

It was very interesting watching them whilst bearing in mind what Edd said - reaction shots, talking heads etc, that's cheap and easy TV, filming someone performing a technical task from start to finish to a level that could be used to attempt said task is a very different thing.

And of course the detailed technical stuff along with the before and after was the very reason to watch the show - if it's now to be "high energy personal interaction" with some cars in the background, with a load of time dedicated to "this time we're not sure we'll get it done in time" conversations it's going to be shit.

  • My wife owns the horse, I just help her out.

  • It's so not like that :(

Edd's bits are the only bits I watch. Watching Mike Brewer buy a car is frankly pretty dull, as is watching him sell it. The technical meat in the middle was the only good bit (skipping the fake reaction 'Wow, that's amazing'/'What have you done?' bit in the middle). Sounds like they're going to turn it into something more like Car SOS, which I find unwatchably awful. Just as soon as they start getting stuck into the technical stuff, they then cut to Tim Shaw failing to be in any way amusing or entertaining.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

  • Ha, ditto for mine right down to the Rapha wallet

though mine started in 1996...and I refuse to classify myself as old.

What does the 01 code in 12 mean ? I don't have that one (but everything else is the same)

  • I don't know, honestly.
