I wonder what this means for sticky bottles and saddles that need adjusting.

BMC must be squeaky clean now.

Just read on inrng, that although BMC were vocal on social media, other teams also complained.

It's easier to judge a push happening than "did he hang onto that bottle longer than x seconds". They threw Nibs off the Giro for hanging on to the car remember?

There are often fines dished out for the more minor incidences of stuff like that too that no one even finds out about. They used to make for interesting reading at the bottom of cyclingnews reports.

But technically to the rules, getting a handsling off a bottle is not OK.

If the rule was "no bottles from cars" then it would be easier to penalise. But it's not, so there is some scope for leniency. This was black/white push/no push. There's no rule for "if the push is not longer than 2seconds it's ok".

They should be made to run into shops and pay for their drinks like normal people.

I think to some extent it comes down to the ability to effect the outcome of stage. Most car/bottle interaction is unlikely to have much impact on a stage, and where it has, it is more likely to be penalised.

I think here, in a team time trial where every second will effect your leader's GC chances, and the rule is pretty clear and easy to police, you've got what's coming to you. In this case, they won by two seconds. Who's to say those little pushes didn't make all the difference?

Once they decided there was a contravention it boggles the mind how they thought they could make up a sanction different to what is clearly stated in the rule book.

Also, the riders benefiting from a bit of sticky bottling are going to be the domestiques going back to the cars for bidons and snacks, not the people who are likely to be winning the race. Giving them a wee breather before heading back to the peloton with snacks and boissons is hardly the same thing as getting towed up the road to the next group, a la Nibbles.

Except without those bottles and snacks those who win may not have won.

No it doesn't. Regulation 1.3.031 merely says 'During competitions on the road, a rigid safety helmet shall be worn.' Doesn't say you can't take it off to take your cap off and then put it back on again. Didn't Contador do exactly the same thing a while back, and nothing happened then either?

The Movistar thing was stupid as well, everyone knows that gentle bum touching is pro cycling s equivalent to fixie bus caressing.

I hope they do nothing, as it's clearly a removal for a purpose that is legitimate. And temporary. I also think Sagan did this during the Tour last year, and Contador did it in the Giro in 2015.

Movistar just have the hump because they were rightly penalised.

He has complications from an injury last year I believe. Not sure when he'll be back. There are 6 WT riders yet to race this year, according to procyclingstats.
