Holds are pressurised, same as cabin. Also, if you ban carrying laptops, it makes it more difficult for one to be passed to a passenger after security, which is what was alleged to have occurred in the Somali airliner incident.

Will Laptops/IPads will be isolated from people at check-in and checked separately for anything nasty before chucking them into the hold ?
Devices measuring more than 16cm in length, 9.3cm in width, or 1.5cm depth will be banned from the cabin and need to be placed into hold luggage and checked-in before going through security.

The hold isn't pressurised. If a small bomb goes off you don't depressurise the cabin?
