• Cheers! Presumably if I did buy/borrow a bearing puller, that central thing would just stay sat there in the middle. Any idea how it is held in, I can't tell from the schematic?

  • pressed between the bearings, see the 2. video ive updated with. for ideas (not same make)

  • Ah right, just watched the 2nd video. Makes sense I think... I'll give it a try at some point and see what happens.

I'll report back, thanks for the info :)

  • Does any one know the difference between a 6000-2RS bearing and a 6000-2RSR bearing. I just realised what I put in my hub last weekend was the latter

  • A quick googling suggests there's no difference whatsoever, but I'm not an expert.

  • I think they are the same thing but different manufacturers if this is anything to go by.
    Suffix 2RS, 2RSH, 2RS1, LLU, DDU, 2RSR, EE
    Bearing with two rubber seals.
    Example 6205 LLU

  • Thanks @TurtleRecall and @freezing77. My Google powers are obviously pretty poor today.

  • I have a2z hubs and would like to clean / change the rear bearings as the chain is going slack when I pedal backwards.

My question is how to remove the bearings? I can't see any nuts?

  • Might be better if you post pictures of the hubs. Are they cassette or freewheel? Backpedalling/chain suck is usually a problem with the freewheel (replacement usually best course of action) or the cassette bearing (replace or service) or pawls (more likely this). Don't use a thick lube or grease as it'll just clog up again. Check the seals too.

If no nuts then the end caps may pull off or there may be an internal hex bolt.

  • Sorry, I tried to from my phone last night, but I'm assuming they are about 3mb each..

  • My guess is that those black end caps pull off, like on Hope hubs.

  • I had to resort to this because my cartridges had seized in the hub and couldn´t be convinced to move:

Took less than five min to pop out both bearings, the puller cost 8 EUR and can be used as a crank puller as well.

  • @Tjabo glad you git the job done. Have you got a link to the puller? I need a cheap one for another job.

  • They might be rebranded Novatec hubs. If so, it's really easy to change the bearings. It involves allen keys in the axle, and then using the axle to pop the bearings out.

  • Bought it at this swedish store, you can probably find something similar in any store that sells motor related tools

  • I had a look last night, allen keys don't work.. I think I might have a puller for windscreen wipers in the garage, so will try that if I can find it..

  • got the bearings out and put new ones in, put it all back together tonight and it's doing the same thing.. I'm running 42T narrow wide front ring with 11-32T tiagra cassette with a 105 5800 med cage rear mech.. is the 1x causing an issue? do I need a clutch rear mech?

  • What is it doing? You don't need a rear mech with a clutch. In my experience a 1x drivetrain with a narrow-wide chainring does make more noise than a "normal" 2x drivetrain.

  • Not being able to pedal backwards doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong.

Derailleur drivetrains aren't designed to run backwards.

  • I know it's not meant to, but when I freewheel my chain goes slack, also when stopped I can't pull the pedal to the top of the stroke to start off..

  • Is the derailleur cage bent?

  • Don't think so, mech has about 20 miles on it (bought off here)

There is a shaft running between the bearing in both the hub and freewheel, should this be floating? as at the minute it is tight and the bearing on each side can't turn by themselves.. if that makes sense.. I was going to try and remove the shaft tonight and see if that helps..

  • I have a Hope hub which has an internal tube, similar to what you describe, and I can spin the bearings independently. I think I understand what you mean and have no idea of the name or purpose of this tube.

Even if they would only move together I cannot see how this would affect back pedalling.

  • I see.

Sounds like sticky pawls rather than bearings.

  • Great tutorial Vince I've been using a washer and nut to push the new bearings in, can't believe I never thought of using the old bearing instead, cheers
