  • What size bb is on a Dolan df3? My shimano bb7700 which has 36x24 etched on it doesn't seem to fit. It's close though.

    I could've sworn I've seen df3s with 7710 cranks before

  • It's a BSA 68mm bottom bracket shell. 36x24 would be Italian threading (36mm, 24tpi) which is why it won't fit. You need a new BB.

  • Well crap. Thanks!

Anyone want an Italian threaded 7700bb?

  • Thanks, I thought there would be a way around using data but I wasn't sure.

  • Any recommendations on where to stay in Hamburg. Going for a long weekend with a couple of mates so somewhere fairly central with bars, restaurants, a bit of cultural stuff nearby (but not right on the reeperbahn). Cheers

  • Where's the best shop (online or irl) to go to buy -10mm solid- axle spacers and cone lock nuts? If there is a go to place?

  • My cannondale uses a star nut in a carbon steerer. Not usually the done thing but it's their SI bollocks. Anyway, it was fine but I removed a spacer under my stem and since reassembling, the top bolt is just pulling the star nut upwards rather than tightening down on it. How do I fix it? Use an expanding bung?

  • How do I fix it?

  • I'd remove it and use a standard expanding bung.

  • Really? I've got the stem almost slammed but there's an inch of steerer left above the stem that I'm not cutting as it's likely I'll sell the frameset in the near future. Don't want to make any irreversible changes that may cause issues for the next owner.

  • Cheers, thought so. Recommendations for one? I know they're all much the same. Saw mention of a lightweight cheap on on eBay somewhere but can't find it now

  • get an airbnb in sankt-pauli near the elbe riverfront. really nice neighborhood and the water round the corner is great. tradition has it that you try to get to the fish market on sunday morning to get yourself an anti hangover fish sandwich. i liked hamburg, pleasant city..

  • issues for the next owner

I'll be dead before any of my bikes have a next owner, so fuck 'em :)

If you put the nut half way up the slammed stem, it will work for anybody else using the fork in the same frame, although you might need a longer preload screw if you're keeping 1" of spacers above the stem.

Also, kidding. There's no way I'd glue a star nut into a steerer, I'd make a proper bond-in nut and glue that in.

  • Thanks for the comprehensive answer as always. Think I'll go with a compression bung. Or leave it since the bearings are preloaded enough before it came loose. It's just irritating having the spacers rattle a bit above the stem. There's no play in the actual steerer though.

  • I spent a good while on my bike yesterday and I am getting severe pains in the base of my neck and its causing me to get headaches. Do you think I need to pull my saddle forward to be more upright, or pull it back to be more stretched out. Obviously its hard for anyone to say as the can't see me on my bike.

  • Do you think I need to pull my saddle forward to be more upright, or pull it back to be more stretched out

Neither. The relationship between saddle and BB is about your lower body, for upper body problems look at moving the handlebars.

  • Bit late now I know but I've used Park Tools method to tighten up loose ones before, just need an old QR and axle/hub.

  • That's a neat method - thanks! Haven't got round to sorting it yet

  • Did Thomson ever produce a stem with a 25.4mm bar clamp and a carbon friendly steerer clamp?

  • Bought an old Peugeot Scorpion 531 and it's in really good condition, apart from the wheels.
Do Shimano do an entry-level MTB (rim brake) wheelset? Something akin to a set of Shimano RS11.
Had a look on the usual sites and can't find much...

  • Do Shimano do an entry-level MTB (rim brake) wheelset?

I don't think they make a 26" rim brake wheel at any level these days. You're looking at hand build or maybe one of the low rent OEMs. If you want Shimano non-disc hubs and it's 135mm OLN, the entry level of stuff that's actually distributed to retail these days would be HB-T610/FH-T610

  • Does GLWTS mean "Good Luck With The Sale" or does it mean Good Luck With That Shit?

If the former, is it a dickish sarcastic comment or is it a nice positive one?

    Cheers.

  • I shave what I think are speedplay x5 pedals, can I use the new aero cleats with them and can anyone point me to where they might be had cheaps.

Is there a guide of how to tell what flavour of speedplay one has and which cleats are compatible?

  • sale not shit.

But it reminds me of someone who that FTFY (fixed that for you) was 'fuck that, fuck you' and people were being rude in correcting people
