Looking for a dress watch. Got my hands on the DeVille Hour Vision recently. Soooooo Nice. But still £4-5k new. Any older De Villes around closer to the £2k mark?

quite like this, but it's German

Yeah. Not a diver (I have 4) or anything with a stop watch functionality.
That's what I class as a dress watch for this scenario.

You can pick up a nice vintage Deville for <£500, no?
-

100 hour power reserve... That's nuts.

That's why it's worth the money.
They've simplified the mechanism greatly, and it's a thing of mechanical beauty.
I want a watch that is understated, quite classic, that will still look good when I am at the end of my life, and one that has some elegance to the mechanism.
I even love the cleanness of the white faced model, though I do love being able to be in a dark theatre and to be able to check the time... which is how I originally found the dark faced version.
Perhaps the white face will be good enough? I've not had a light faced watch, maybe they're readable enough in dim light?

With that kind of budget just buy a nice clean vintage Explorer 1016 and be done with it...
-

I don't have that kind of budget, I'm just dreaming. But it's not totally out there on the affordability scale... it's plausible, I could own that one day.

What's the little gold ball in the top left of the face?
-
• #21687
Oh, it's a moon... of course.
-
• #21688
CB will be all over that... Obvs...

lolz.
1016 are lovely, but ridic at their current price. The GO weirdly represents better vfm imo.
@Aroogah - aren't those Omega a bit tubby for dress watches? I'd have thought a JLC would be more on point.
If I was after a dress watch I would probably go vintage manual in a precious metal. imo the 3 musts for a dress watch are; precious metal, thin, no second hand. I'd also avoid anything without a plain/solid colour dial.

What about a Nomos?
-
• #21691
Vacheron Constantin would probably be the idea as they have awful depreciation, so the most achievable of the "big 3", which is something that would be nice to have in the collection.

I'm not necessarily that interested in thin, nor precious metal - gold is not my colour and spending £££ on platinum that looks like the steel case seems daft to me. I'm not a huge fan of the current JLCs. I do like the Maurice LaCroix Les Classiques Moonphase though.
@Soul - Nomos are nice but not my style at all.
I really like the DeVille Hour Visions so I think I will look into the second hand market for DeVilles. Who is the go-to sensible source in London? There's a reputable place people have mentioned before but the name escapes me.

Hmmmmmmm......
(starts googling)

Would absolutely love a 1016 or a current explorer but only have the budget for something like an SARB033.
-
• #21695
No worries. Each to their own!

• #21696
How about this?

The screw head alignment is worthy of the OCD thread.
So. Much. This.
