Here's my idea, play around with the pressure on your current tyres more, drop the tyres a bit more by 5-7psi and ride it.
-
• #4303
I have done that, ridden them at 65 front, 70 rear around Flanders and they were fine but northern France is a different gravy so would prefer a bit more of a buffer

26" tyre for off/on road touring? Me and Liz are doing the ridgeway soon. I used to live on it and have fond memories of flint, chalk, dust, wet grass, roads and slimy mud on my Raleigh ascender. It's usually easy going on rutted tracks but they're deep so shoulder knobs are essential. Lots of country lanes and dirt track too. Nuff flint round there so puncture resistance would be nice. Running tubes.
Her Troll has clearance for days so anything up to 2.7.
Looking at rock razor, nobby nick, aspen, happy medium and advantages but any recommendations welcome.
Sub £50 for a pair is preferable. Will be for spring summer conditions so faster, rather than a full on mud tyre. No contis. -

Maxxis ardent gum wall

That's what I thought but assumed they'd be too big for a wolverine
-

They look pretty snug in there to be fair.
If you squint at the bottom logo I'm sure it reads ardent.. -

I've been running 25 or 28mm Durano or Durano Plus for ages. They're stupid high mileage tyres.
Is there something cushier that doesn't sacrifice too much durability? I'd try 32mm or wider I'm not sure they'll fit the 4S Disc though, never been bigger than 28.

Nothing? Come on you lazy fuckers, I've got tyres to buy...

Isn't the standard answer to 700x32c high mileage tyre the Voyager Hyper? Rolling resistance is supposed to be lower than the Durano, and being bigger you can run them at lower pressure for greater comfort. If I could fit wider than a 28 on my bike, that's what I'd go for.

In my mind it goes something like a Durano/marathon supreme type thing for high mileage but still niceish. Gravelking with the file tread is the go to more supple option, but you lose some mileage and then you end up with Corsa Gplus whatnots for all the suppleness but not the same longevity.
Everything is a compromise. More supple=less miles, but I'm sure you know that.

Dunno, not been reading tyre thread.
Hyper rolls better than Marathon Supreme and is a bit ligher but I'm not sure about either of their punc. res. http://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/tour-reviews/schwalbe-marathon-supreme-2016
Hyper are a bit more expensive but there's not a lot in it.

Yes, I'm aware of the compromises. I'm just looking for suggestions.
Maybe I'll test the Hypers or Marathon Supremes. Neither of which I've used before.
Going to 32 from 25 (if it fits) will help too. -
• #4316
Hmm interesting. Have you used them before? Any comments?
-
• #4317
Yes been using the 23/25 and 30/32 on summer + winter commuters since they came out in 2014.
Slowtwitch love them too :)

Put simply, I was shocked to see that it rolls faster than the lighter weight Turbo Pro. The Roubaix Pro is officially the sleeper in the Specialized tire line. Looking for a tough tire choice for a questionable race course? This is your tire. The price is right, the quality is there, and the Crr is outstanding for a tire that is this durable.

I'm using them at the moment.
Although your high mileage is not the definition of my high mileage :/
Having said that I have been commuting like a boss with them with no problems.
Fucking gravel kings can > > >

My shortlist is:
Schwalbe-marathon-supreme-road-tyre-raceguard
Vittoria-voyager-hyper-touring-tyre
Specialized-Roubaix-Pro-Clincher-Tyre-700X30-32CNone of which I've used before. I guess that means I should buy a pair of all three then...

• #4320
good list, I think you will be most happy with Marathon Supreme given your use.
-
• #4321
I shied away from them initially having used Marathon Plus tractor tyres before but these appear to be much faster normal-shaped variants.
-
• #4322
Hypers are only 19.99 from Planet X:
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TYVIVOHY/vittoria-voyager-hyper-folding-tyre
Only 11.99 if you can squeeze a 35 in there! Bargainistic.
-
• #4323
Are they the same ones? At that price (+£1.50 delivery), silly not to test them out.
-
• #4324
Indeed - it's a no brainer if you can fit the 35's.
-
• #4325
Well, thanks, I've ordered a set of 32 and set of 35.
If the 35s don't fit they'll get sold on here or something.
If I don't like them, I'll get the one of the other two options - Spesh Roubaix or Mara Supreme
I'm in Bristol unfortunately!
