I revisited Black Cat cafe in Hackney Central and had dinner on Friday (first visit was pricey/pointless brunch at a weekend). What a difference! I had Fishless and chips... No idea what it was made of but it was delicious, textured and came with a massive portion of various salads. Much better value than the breakfast too.

Did it come with a tartar sauce? If not what sauce you go for?

I think it was garlic mayo, also delicious.

I liked the calzone at FBW.

How'd it go? I didn't rebuy.
Tried a "fish" burger at Lord of the Fries in Auckland and it was ace! Tofu based, battered and with sour gherkins mmm...

It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Still prefer the vbites ones but these will do at a push and they can be frozen.
I'm more excited about the recipes someone posted further up that include http://minimalistbaker.com/crispy-eggplant-bacon/ which I plan to try tonight if I can get some liquid smoke.
As for Lord of the Fries - why didn't you post this a month ago :( Just back from NZ and mostly cooked for myself in the campervan as all too often the veggie and vegan options were not always so. I couldn't tell you how many places I walked out of because the veggie/vegan option happened to be fried in lard (2 actually).
I'll put it on my list for next time.

Btw If trying this recipe make sure you read it correctly. Do not accidentally read the Fahrenheit instructions as Celsius. Carbonised aubergine isn't that nice.

Does anyone have a good seitan chicken recipe? Not fried chicken (I'd definitely burn my house down). I made some misc. vaguely meaty seitan the other day, not bad for my first attempt but looking to improve!

We've got some ridiculously good vegan cheese burgers on the menu at Persepolis the moment - have to admit, I was skeptical, but we can't roll them out fast enough! And they come with fries :)

I really like all their new flavours. Almond Dream Salted Caramel though....omg, so good!
I know they over sweeten a lot of their products but I do like Alpo's fruit yoghurts and it made me happy to discover they've started selling the blueberry in big pots!

I, for one, welcome Persepolis-related spam. :)
And we still haven't made it down.

my mate works at ben & jerrys and says their vegan ice cream is not too far away!

I've had some of this, it was a while ago and yes, from what I can remember, it was pretty darn amazing!

I had some Ben & Jerry's last year in Boston... it was pretty good... they don't really need our money but it's was worth a bash.

Has anyone else heard of the Global Fusion creole bakery? I came across them at a market in Oxford in November and in spite of my best efforts to track them in London (where they claim to be based) the search has so far been fruitless. They were insanely good value and the cakes were delicious. £4 for a large banana and chocolate loaf... need I say more? Any pointers would be hugely appreciated.

They're in Stokey every Saturday at the Growing Communities Organic Farmer's market:
http://www.growingcommunities.org/market/our-producers/
I also recommend, the Growing Communities vegetable and fruit bag schemes!
Mildreds in Camden is betterer, and is almost completely vegan (oddly, just the one dish with a bit of cheese).
