Nice! (Big brother of the ka-3700)
It's the speakers (videoton minimax 2) that impress me every time I listen, small size and 30-40 years old. Somehow the rubber isn't rotten but I know it's only a matter of time.

Anyone still using cassettes?

My dad has about 500 mix tapes from the 70s 80s & 90s, so yeah, him.

So I've been lusting over an Arcam A&R60 that is currently on the 'bay and is close to me. I ended up with a Project Essential III which I'm enjoying a lot, but I'd love to get a replacement for my Cambridge 640a which sounds fine, but is nowt spesh. Everything is hooked up to my Dali Zensor 1s.
I'm going to try and get the seller to give me a listen this weekend - what should I be looking out for when I go to look at it? @chrisbmx116 still enjoying yours?

Not really sure if you'll be able to hear a difference, other than a difference in volume if the wattage is different.
Sure looks nice though.

A&R60
You know you'll be faffing with DIN connectors right?
Otherwise, check all knobs for crackles, check all inputs work, binding posts etc are functional. -
• #3858
Hmm, if it's purely a trade off on aesthetics then probably not worth it... Think I'd be better saving & going for something like a newer arcam FMJ A19? Might be overkill for the rest of the components.

Thanks - good tips. Yeah I was prepared for that... was going to treat it as a bit of a project.

Aye, loving it, beautiful wee thing. The older ones have Mag PU instead of Phono but its all the same (thats what mine has). No Din plugs on mine either, actually did a google, maybe not does? There are simple and short converters though... oh fuck it, I'll go check...

Just buy it. They are beautiful. Kinda want to replace my turntable. Again.

Wanna buy mine bro?
-
• #3863
Ha, maybe. What are you replacing it with?
-
• #3864
Not sure. Fancy something that matches the amp better... so wood... looked at Linn, looked at prices, looked away, wiped tear.
-
• #3865
Also, curve ball... you seen these? Look pretty decent.

There's a decent FB group where there's good discussions on quality, alternative turntables to Linn and they often come up for sale at reasonable prices:

It's got pretty awful reviews...

I was wondering about this for my amp, as it would match some of the mid-century furniture better and appease the other half.
I noticed that you can get quite high quality adhesive vernier now. What about boxing in the vertical edges?

...and if you like the classic look and like the Project, how about a Project Classic?

Thats a 5 star review Bro?
@johnnyhotdog I'm not on the Facebook so can't see that... seen the Project Classic, tempting! -
• #3872
It's what hifi?
They give 5 star reviews to everything. If they gave negative reviews they would go out of business.Dig a little deeper and that TT fluctuates in speed more than most, has a questionable arm, £25 cartridge and a dodgy built-in phono stage. The Pro-Ject is way better.

• #3873
Ahhhhh was unaware of their reputation... cheers bro.
-
• #3874
That said, I really can't take any hifi journalism seriously.

That is the correct approach.
