I'm 198cm and have an s2l. S bars are fine for me but I definitely needed a telescopic post.
Telescopic post is handy as you can set the height you need with the top bit then just fully extend the lower bit every time.
-
• #2828
You might need either telescopic or extended.
-
• #2829
What is the difference between telescopic and extended?
Length wise?
-
• #2830
Extended is longer than the regular post. Telescopic is long outer post with a separate inner post that extends telescopically. ;)
Ah, your edit was too quick!
I dunno, but the extended was too short for me and the telescopic has a fair bit further it could extend.

Cool I didn't know, new to the brompton stuff.

187cm and telescopic needed here too. Allows a more compact fold as well.
Unlike @TurtleRecall and @diable I extend the top bit to the maximum, so the main post has more insertion into the frame for better structural support / less stress to the frame... Not that it's a Brompton recommendation but makes me feel better with my 95kg. More of a pain to adjust every time, will be easier once I've fitted the sleeve to pre set extension...
If you're getting one second hand avoid the really old ones (pre 2004 I think) with your height, the extended frame length makes the reach more suitable.
I've got risers on a M type, so drop wise I'm the same as a S type and I don't feel it's too low personally...

Black edition with a Lime Green frame
Waiting for meeting near Waterloo, by a red light, loads of bikes, just saw that one you taking about, very nice. Guy also had that push photography style bag and surprisingly the colours didn't fight...

Bromptoneers! You know the tapered wheels that sit on top of the rack and help you trundle the Brompton along when folded? Does anyone else clatter their ankles on these while pedalling?
Can you get slimmer profile replacements?
-
• #2835
Yes and yes.
Have you turned yours around yet? I found that worked for me as a free fix.
Just to clarify by turn around I mean at the moment they sit like this

you unscrew and switch them so they sit like this:

The bike is slightly less stable, but I would be surprised if it was any less stable than the fancier aftermarket versions like the easywheels.

Oh that's a great idea. Cheers.
It's my wife's bike and I don't ride it often but have been using it as a my main commuter over the past couple of weeks.

You can also get these relatively inexpensive slimmer replacements

Yeah the official brompton eazywheels - they have the added bonus of actually working like wheels and not circular skid pads.

A lot of people have said the same thing about grey and red... :-)

It's a bit grubby but this is mine, red, nickel and black

Hi, I'm matt, I'm 40 and 1/2 and I'm thinking of getting my first Brompton.
-

That colour scheme is awesome, definitely one of the first mix and match one I've seen that work out surprisingly well.

I'm now fully convinced that the Brompton is the 21st Century alternative to the dutch bike.
I never really liked riding it (especially compare to a lovely road bike), but it's so practical, I don't think about, or wear the necessary clothes.
It make more sense nowadays with such little space for a proper dutch bike, the government's dismayed attitude toward cycling and not being able to locked up anywhere without it getting stolen.

Thanks, it was payment for a summer internship I did with them last year which meant I wasn't constrained with the normal online builder. Got to put it together myself which was nice too.
I think it's so so convenient, for instance me and the girfriend had stayed last night at a friends house in Walthamstow, both Bromptoned down to the olympic park had lunch and a cycle around, took them into the velodrome then got everything on the tube to come back to Putney, did the shopping, Girlfriends bag was now a bit unmanageable so we swapped bags (with of course no adjustment necessary) and cycled home.
The only issues are carrying it around when folded, fine for me, but girlfriend has a rack and uses the saddle to wheel it around and the fact that if you are a couple and one of you has one it can be frustrating as you end up often leading a lifestyle enabled by your Brompton!

The only issues are carrying it around when folded, especially when you can't locked it up (for obvious reason, it will get stolen).
Yeah, that's the only main disadvantage I had, I can wheel it, but only for a short stretch (like a platform), but very tricky to do it continuously

Do it. Test ride the different models and if you live close to a hire scheme, try one for a week or so. Or not.

Shit my excuse of waiting a Brompton is no longer... My new job is in deep deep SW London so I am going against traffic to and from work... Just tested taking a full sized bike on the train last Friday and it was totally fine!!! I was rather hoping I would be met with angry looks etc...
But then, since when one needs an excuse to buy a new bike?
-
• #2848
I was just about to ask you how come you managed to get to this combo!!! Damn! Any chance they are looking for a weekend general dogsbody?
-
• #2849
Looks very cool.

Probably not a weekend job as the factory has started running 4 days a week, but from my brief experience it would have been a good company to work for if you did spot a job.
Thanks
