One for the oldies, an interview with Gilles Delion, winner of the 1990 Tour of Lombardy, and a rider who didn't take EPO and was ridiculed by Verbruggen because he spoke out;

I think phinney is different, he was young when it happened and was just coming into the good years when he's blossom. Not like the others there, he's far far more talented.
I hope he finds some success in the coming years. I really admire him.
Shame he didn't go to dimension data, he might have got on well there. But yeah, cannondale are a bit of a laughing stock. I guess that's what having a small budget does, when bigger teams can buy up all the talent.

I still think Vanmarcke is a proper talent, he's been the strongest rider in the final of Paris-Roubaix at least twice, and was the last person to be dropped by Sagan at Flanders last year. He lacked support at LottoNL-Jumbo, so I thought he'd go to a team where he would have that in the final 20 kms of Flanders and Roubaix. Instead he picked Cannondale.

I forgot he went there. So yes totally agree. He's knocking on the door for years now, amazing rider. Well pointed out.
Maybe he had no choice?

GCN blew up what appeared to be Chris Froome's Strava account on FB; all data was deleted an hour ago.
-
• #9632
There's gotta be screenshots somewhere, right? Was there power data etc?
-
• #9633
Can't tell if real or virtual power but 18 mins at 447W + 140BPM sounds a bit Froome-y
Of the accounts three followers one was Tim Kerrison and another Ian Boswell -

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Froome's max hr was something like 160bpm. And I think there's a little lightning bolt icon if it's wattage from a power meter...

Can't tell if real or virtual power
If he's using a Stages then it's virtual.
Amiright?

Ulrika-Scott announce their GT plans for the year;
Giro: Adam and Simon Yates
Tour: Esteban Chaves
Vuelta: All three of themThe Giro field is shaping up really nicely; Nibali, Quintana, Aru, Pinot, Dumoulin, Thomas, Landa, Kruiswijk, Van Garderen, Zakarin, Mollema and now the Yates' twins. Hopefully it'll be a good race.

Giro is going to be a great race. Always is really. But maybe that's because it's the first of the year.
Look forward to the Yates tag teaming everyone. -

Damnit! Hadn't properly registered the news when it came out last month that Sporza won't be broadcasting this year's Giro. It's all on Eurosport, so I'll probably even have to pay for getting stupid commercials and bad commentary. Pity.

Oi! Kirby and Kelly show rocks :)
-
• #9640
Are you nuts? Kirby is literally the worst. His obnoxious commentary pulls me out of the race. It's a serious issue for me.
-
• #9641
Thomas focussing on stage racing makes me a bit sad he's far more fun to watch in the classics.
-
• #9642
He's great. Kelly for tactics, Kirby for LOLs and finish line excitement.
-
• #9643
I concur. The man is a fucking embarrassment.
For some strange reason, he's also blocked me on Twitter. I hope I offended him.
-
• #9644
You guys don't deserve race coverage.
-
• #9645
My grandmother could do a better job of rider identification than Kirby, and we buried her 17 years ago.
-
• #9646
I'd much rather listen to Kirby than the Phil/Paul rsa waffle than we get for the tour.
And Kirby's rider identification is much better. -
• #9647
You have a bigger screen than he does so you should be better at it too. That's part of the fun.
I find Phil/Paul monotonous and that Aussie bloke annoys me. Brian Smith is knowledgeable and Millar has some interesting snippets but Kirbs gets pumped. Hyper Hyper. Scooter!

I'm all for Millar and Boulting. Although Boulting shits me off sometimes. I think I'd like Millar and Boardman together.
-
• #9649
I like Boardman and Boulting too but fucked if I'm watching ITV versions of races.
The guy that does the Olympic track cycling, he annoys me.

Hugh Porter? If so, he needed to stop commentating about ten years ago.
He fell twenty feet out of a tree he was working on apparently. He was at the Perfs Pedal Race supporting his son last Sunday, so is well on the way to recovering from his injuries.
