  • I've had a cold for the past few weeks, slowly clearing up but lingering a bit. Could just be taking its toll I suppose, could be something else I've picked up...

  • Dodgy hr strap/chest interface?

If it happens again I'd seriously consider a visit to the docs to get an ecg, don't want to concern you but it's better to be safe than sorry!

  • It's only an optical HR sensor in the watch, so prone to inaccuracies but a quick finger-to-the-neck check told me it can't have been too far off. Going to give it a rest today and take it easy for the rest of the week I think.

  • haahaaahhahhahahahhahahhaha yeah! Been around a while but good

  • Ditto. Just canned today's 25k after an easy 5k warmup with the GF. The ankle has felt stiff for a couple of weeks but hasn't deteriorated so I kept going but I half rolled it running off trail across the top of the moors on Friday. A vigorous ceilidh last night probably didn't help either. Today it started twinging uncomfortably so figured it is better to rest.

Hmmm... no running since Sunday but I tried a gentle 10k today. The ankle was definitely better than it was on Sunday, I still felt some light twinges but nothing too bad although it's noticably stiff now. I was hoping to do a 40k recce of the SDW course on Sunday while I'm in the area anyway but I'm unsure now. Should I:

    a) Go with the original plan and try a long run on the South Downs?
    b) Come home on Sunday and do a mid-lenght run on local paths with easy options to cut the run short if necessary?
    c) Play things double safe and have another full week off?

    How's cycling on the ankle?

  • Throwing this out there. My mileage has stepped up of late. Got really bad thrush of the actual penis.
    Trip to the pharmacy?
(I'm in a long term relationship so too much sex is definitely not an issue)

  • How's cycling on the ankle?

Seems fine... I've not done any cycling this week as I've also had a cold but I did a couple of commutes with no trouble. If I can't run then I'll definitely swap in some cycling/swimming.

  • Done precisely 1 -2 months of running, out of nowhere fell running popped in my head. Popped back out.

  • Trip to the pharmacy?

    Or Docs I guess?

    Worth noting though: http://www.tylervigen.com/spurious-correlations

  • Nah keep it in, well worth the experience.

  • Am I dying?

    Imminently.

If it went back to normal quickly, though you likely don't have a problem.

(I am, of course, a fully internet trained cardiac diagnosis opionionater)

Of course, viral myocardia is a thing...

  • I am in need of a decent internet doctor. Last couple of runs I've had a jabbing pain from the base of the spine down to the groin. Feels like a nerve thing. Stupidly pushed through an agonising 6 miles trying to run it off and could barely walk for a couple of days. Should I be saying goodbye to my loved ones?

  • Should I be saying goodbye to my loved ones?

If you were a Racehorse, defo.

  • Think I'm gonna swerve weighing in on any internet injury diagnoses and just note that my Achilles is feeling a lot better for (a) physio and (b) rest/x-training. As ever I'll never really know which of these was most significant, but despite being quite sceptical of physios' capabilities generally I'm pretty sure there was an immediate effect from the manipulations that I received on the couch on Tuesday. According to the same guy I saw about a year ago, it's the same problem I've had with my psoas muscle tightening and causing misalignment, which was tightening the calf and putting undue stress on the Achilles. Range of movement was immediately better, but still some tenderness so I've been cautious since then, with a couple of 6 mile runs Wednesday/Thursday, then bike rides of 30 miles/47 miles yesterday and today. Will try a longer run tomorrow, 15 miles if it feels OK, and maybe marathon training will be back on track next week, including the National XC a week today.

  • ^ glad you're improving, enjoy National XC.

Back to slow time on feet here. Tonight i'm going to play 2hrs of Pacman via:

  • ^ Tagged 15 dots in just over 2 hrs. Points deducted for being over the alloted time.

  • That looks like fun, will take more a look later!

Just done my first 20 miler, felt awful for the first few miles and considered going back to bed but thankfully was with 2 mates, then as things loosened up felt fine, we've upped the pace a little as we are soling to stay under 75% max hr and as we've all got fitter that's about 15 seconds faster per km, really needed the loo from 18 miles onwards but did the last 1.5 miles at marathon pace (apart from falling over with about 300m to go as I tried to do a dead turn and couldn't react when I slid on pile of gravel - I think I'm channelling @hats ;)) so pretty pleased, I have another three 20 milers so will gradually increase the amount of marathon pace I do!

  • Besides myself and @PhilPub do we have any other forum representation at the National?

I'm trying to crack the top 500 for the first time.

  • I'll be at the National as well. No idea how it will go as I still haven't done any hill training.

Did a half at marathon pace along the Thames this morning. Probably slightly more than marathon effort due to the terrain, a variety of towpath, mud, grass and pavements. Faded a bit in the final couple of miles but not the end of the world.

  • Ticked the trail half marathon off my hitlist this weekend with 16andabit miles along the West Highland Way at Loch Lomond. Felt good, if sore.

  • If memory serves Wollaton is pretty flat anyway, you'll be fine!

  • What and how much do people eat the night before/morning of a long run, i probably had a bit too much last night, and despite a only having a trek bar and a banana this morning i was in need of the loo from 25km onwards, which kind of ruined doing a marathon paced finish!

  • 26 miles yesterday on the Speyside Way as a longrun. Today should have been 10 miles according to the plan, but it was our clubs half marathon which was the obvious alternative to run.

Plan A was chill out have it as a longrun, for time on feet.
Plan B was see how the legs felt and press on a bit to test recovery from yesterday.

Set off mid pack and was feeling fine after the first 2Km. So gave up chatting and dropped my club mate, who has just come back from injury. 1hr 31min which is within a minute of my PB.

Really happy with that after feeling dead and pulling a DNF at last weeks XC after one lap
