  • Is it that you don't need a dog link or whatever they're called because the direct mount design spaces the mech out when mounted to a hanger?

  • Nope, No dog or drop link. DM design just puts the derailleur below the dropout so it lines up with the sprockets better as far as I've read. Dunno about differences in cable pull though @edscoble Is that pre clutch stuff? I use a zee shifter because it was peanuts, which as I understand it, was one of the original clutches. Works a treat.

I know you can use the M675 SLX ones and they'll work just fine. Frankly though, any 10 speed MTB derailleur will work just fine. Shimano doesn't really advertise 10sp as capable of clearing a 42t if I remember right, but hey ho, it works.
Same way I found out a short cage 6870 derailleur will clear a 36t sprocket without a sweat.

  • & @edscoble Perfect thanks for the help. I want it to work as well as possible so will procure an m786 and whatever dynasys shifter I decide on after looking at them. Exciting times, but yeah so much contradictory info online about them dealing with 11-42 so good to hear it from someone who has actually tried it rather than just regurgitated something they read elsewhere.

Only because the derailleur hanger was long enough to compensate.

Case in point is the Specialized Sequoia's hanger being longer than usual.
