Yes indeed. As a Merican citizen you are required to file taxes there whether you live there or not. And you get taxed on joint accounts, capital gains from selling primary residence, etc. It's a whole world of pain (that we've just gone through).

I have a feeling that US citizenship really screws you over for taxes, basically they try and tax overseas earnings.
