  • I think my Luxos USB thingy finally gave up today after 18 months. A couple of hours in cold rain on Saturday, then hung up in the shed this morning may have killed it.

Started rolling out of the lane and the lights were flashing before I'd turned them on. Pressing the handlebar switch killed the lights altogether and they wouldn't come back on so I had to leg it home and take the train :(

Hopefully sending it back to Rose/BUMM for inspection or replacement as it's only about 18 months old and they seem to be fully aware of the water ingress issues.

Before it died though, I noticed the indicator LEDs flashing quite brightly, seemingly at random. I eventually worked out that the LEDs (and presumably the lights themselves) get brighter when a car approaches from the rear - i.e. headlights get close enough.

Am I imagining this, is the light totally fucked, or is this a magical feature that I didn't realise existed?

  • I think there is such a feature - at least I've noticed the same behavior on mine.
But I think it's very much linked to where the lamp is affixed. I had it on the front of the rack, and since I've moved the lamp to the fork's crown, I haven't noticed it.
