  • Do Arsenal even football nowadays?

  • I hope J.K. Rowling is planning an appearance on Arsenal Fan TV.

  • Sutton totally falling for Arsene's masterful misdirection

  • No wifi on the Eurostar - boarded at 1-1 arrive to texts of derision :'(

  • Embarrassing for the club and Wenger. Love the man and what he's done for us but seems like it's coming to an end and I hope for his legacy he knows it?

For the Champions league now..looks like Chelsea are playing well and must be theirs to lose.

  • We're unbeaten in the CL this season...

  • We've been terrific, nailed on European champions...

  • Scintillating football.

Someone remind me again, which English team has won all three European trophies?

I know Juventus, Ajax and Bayern have done it but can't recall the name of the last club to do it.

  • power, height, determination, leadership are all vital as well, as Wenger just doesn't seem to get that

He used to get it, in the days of Vieira, Petit, Gilberto, Lauren, Ljungberg, Campbell, Toure, Cole et al, but, for reasons unknown, he decided this wasn't as important any more, and the ability to win trophies went with it.

  • After all these years and all his success, it would be wrong for Wenger to leave Arsenal other than at a time of his own choosing. It would also be wrong for him to leave on a low note.

While Wenger, like SAF, is a phenomenon of the past and we shall no longer have managers running clubs for decades, he must be treated properly.

  • Oh Cliveo.

  • For once I agree. Wenger must stay. One European Cup final in 25 consecutive years of qualification is a tremendous record

  • Liverpool fan mouthing off about recent success and winning finals.

  • If Derby had enjoyed the success that Arsenal had over the past 10 (let alone 20) years, you would be one ecstatic diminutive person. If Tottenham enjoy over the next ten years what Arsenal have over the past ten, it will be a massive step up.

Arsenal supporters bang on about histry and class. To kick Wenger out would be to disrespect the most successful manager in their history and would be a rejection of class.

I am no fan of Wenger but I have to say that there are few football supporters who would not have wanted him as their manager in the past ten and certainly 20 years. ManU and Chelsea (and possibly City) are the exceptions.

Let the man go gracefully when the time is right and now is not the right time.

  • Yes but unlike Arsenal fans I do not believe we have a divine right to win trophies

  • Anyway, Arsenal just need a 4-0 at home and they are through. Not impossible by any stretch. If they achieve that, Wenger will, once again, be the hero. Oh fickle fans from Finsbury Park.

  • Anyway, time to focus of the big European game. Corney, are you in Ghent?

  • fuck no!
Work is murdering me right now.
Still think we're in with a shout of winning the damn heavy thing, and the hope that some of the fringe squad players and Janssen get a run out, and a chance to impress..

  • Ghent. What a beautiful city. The time we went for the 6 day in 2010 was a great trip

  • Clive, your epxressed sentiments towards Wenger owe much to the style of Jose.

  • Clive, your trolling game has weakened, are you going soft in your old age?

  • No trolling.

SAF went on a high but in good time, There was something wrong at ManU which has not been put right yet. He managed one last league win and retired. No one has yest succeeded there although Mourinho could do something next year if he is given money to spend. SAF's legacy is safe.

Wenger is the only other manager at that type of level who can compare with SAF as a one club manager over decades. Dave Sexton was Chelsea manager for 7 years in the 60s and 70s. No one since him has lasted more than 4 years. Most other clubs are the same. Even hugely successful clubs in Spain, Italy and Germany, switch managers every 2-4 years. Wenger and SAF were unique and will not be repeated.

People used to criticise Chelsea for not having a manager of such longevity. With hindsight, I doubt that Chelsea would have won what they have won with just one manager.

Probably the time for Wenger to go was after the Invincible season. But he didn't and Arsenal have suffered as a consequence. Mind you, he steered them through the stadium move and kept their cashflow up which is what he was charged to do. They should honour what he has done rather than sacking him.

  • There is talk of Arsenal lining up Benitez, who has apparently fallen out with Newcastle over transfer spending. Now that would be trolling.

  • Well I've had a think about it and given the available lot - Warburton, Rowett, Pards etc, I now think we should limp on with Bruce to the end of the season and get rid in the summer. Spend the next few months sounding out someone better - who, I don't know.

Newcastle are going to spank us, probably Derby too. So going to be a grim few more weeks. Might just avoid relegation.
