  • Wonder if the Ineos guy ever saw that?

  • 1/ the thud a dud is it from the boot? try taking out the parcel shelf, the rubber ball waits on the end of the cords for the shelf can bang on the boot lid when shut, also try a small bit of grease on the chrome tailgate catch they can make a cracking noise over uneven roads.

2/ All BMWs and Minis make a slight deep groan as you pull up that you can hear just below 5mph, that gets aggravated if there is surface rust on the discs.

  • Wouldn't an Austin gypsy be more appropriate?

  • Thanks, will check.

  • So rad, I'd love to swap in a different engine but I don't think the rest of the drivetrain would hold up :(

Jag v12 engines can be bought pretty cheap though...

  • Taking a walk this evening and found a volvo 850 t5-r, yellow and manual (saloon) parked. Took a chance and knocked the house door. Turns out the guy has owned it for 20 years and it is stock, possibly for sale, full service history.... Now there were only ever 28 manual sedans imported into aus so this is a rare beast. Thinking offering $3500 aud for it. Silly or rude? Paint is faded beyond repair but otherwise straight and no damage.

  • You'd get a bargain even here in Sweden for that money, and there's plenty more of them here. Why not ask him how much he wants? If he's keen on selling it to a good buyer and gets an easy sale he might very well offer it for cheap. I'd never sell my merc to someone offering peanuts for it out of the blue, but I'd be happy to let it go for a very good price to someone I know will look after it.

  • Gah. Phones.

  • How long have people waited for v5s to arrive?

I tried to tax my car with the new owner slip when I bought it but the website wouldn't allow it so I thought I'd just wait until the full logbook came through. It never did and today I got clamped... kind off pissed that there isn't just an office I can go into and get this all squared away.

Edit: wheels were too big to clamp properly so I could literally just drive away from it but that doesn't solve my problem.

  • They do take a few weeks IME. You've been unlucky, hope you can have it sorted.

  • My new toy. Because reasons!

  • Win. Surely some sort of engine remap and a discreet exhaust upgrade no?

  • Heh. It's done 180k miles and needed a clutch, rad and stat, so it's got to prove itself for a bit yet. Also I have the M3 for going fast. Really enjoying the Foz though.

  • Just realised it is now nearly 10 years since I had to go to my then local DVLA office and ask what I had to do to license a car when the seller had neglected to send in the old V5, for three months.
I recently phoned DVLA in Swansea, and was pleasantly surprised that a replacement for a mislaid 'license' could be arranged without completing a paper form or delay.

  • shitty luck. appeal it, you might get luckier.

  • I'm gonna try to, I've had terrible luck with DVLA/DVSA website and online parking permits. Not sure if it's just me but owning a car in this country is a fucking myth. Tempted to just try and make a SORN. Sell my project mini and keep the landrover in my garage while I cool off and pay the insane number of PCNs I've amassed.

Funny how they're so accurate with timing when they wanna collect money from me but when I need something they take their sweet time.

  • I waited 3 weeks for the mini, over a month for the citroen and it's been over 2 for the landrover.

  • So you've been driving around for two months with no tax? Hard to feel much sympathy tbh.

  • I found that out the hard way too - unfortunately you need to sort that out instantly.

Before I left the garage after doing a PX, I sorted out insurance (obviously). Then filled up down the road and called up Green Flag to notify them of the change. Got home and sorted out the residents parking permit switch online. Was going to sort the tax online the following morning and BOOM, a wild clamp appears (at 5am on a Sunday morning). It's my own stupid fault - I just didn't realise that it wasn't something you have any period of grace in sorting out, as I don't tend to buy and sell cars often. What added insult to injury was that, despite being able to clamp it under shadow of darkness on a Sunday morning, they wouldn't unclamp it until Monday, although they did do that very early.

  • Am I allowed to post car UNappreciation here? Been borrowing a pug 1007 and low and behold drivers side magic slidy from the future door is kaput! (I wonder why they never caught on...)

Won't even budge, just makes a sad little groany noise when you press the button. The car also thinks the door is open even when locked so the piss boiling-ly annoying beep with accompanying interior light flash are constantly on while driving.

Done a little research and it appears its most likely the actuator for the motor inside the door failing because of the grease they used only having a 6year shelf life...sigh

Anyone been unfortunate enough to come across this?

  • Need a tin opener.

  • tbf to @IR, it's not a perfect system, and in certain circumstances the website makes it impossible to tax a car you've just bought.

  • Condition is king but you'd not get a beaten, rusty example for that money in the UK, these were rare cars - now they're even rarer. The cars that are going to be worth the most are the stock, manual ones, shame about the paint but that's 20 years of Australian UV - would it cut back?
