I wouldn't advise taking money on the scene or offering it.
-
• #1878
Yeah normally I wouldn't but I'm not planning on claiming and I just wanted to get my bike fixed. Which it is now :)

Can I potentially claim compensation from driver for loss of income?
Yes - but it takes a while, so be warned. Also makes life easier if the driver is insured. And you have a lawyer.

Similar incident to me a few years back. They didn't ask to inspect my bike. It was noted in the report that it was fixed but the issue of brakes was never brought up. Can indeed take a while but totally worth it in my opinion. You can claim for money lost from earnings as well as your travel during that period, medical expenses and loss of leisure. I used Dowse Co solicitors on a no win no fee basis. If you have a witness with a telephone number I'd say it's a very good idea to get in touch with them.

I'm unsure of what to do next.
Ride a road legal bike?
Heal up fast but beware if your bike isn't road legal it may be considered a contributory factor.
It's the same as a car that is not roadworthy.

Thank you for the advice

Thanks to a side-swipe I have a cheek graze, a fat lip and a rear wheel that doesn't turn. Woo.

Bugger.
Currently in Lewisham A&E, heavy landing on shoulder. Pretty sure something is broken.
Londoners are good folks by and large, so thanks to those that helped.

Did you fall or were you hit?
Hope it's nothing very serious.

Sorry to hear this, hope it's nothing too serious.

A looong night in Lewisham a&e (the staff really are amazing, but so understaffed it's a disgrace) reading up about broken collarbones and whether I'd have to bin off plans of my trip to the mountains in June.
Amazing news is that nothing is broken. Ligament and muscle damage, but nothing that'll stop me training. Whoop.

Ligament
...takes longer to heal than broken bones, if it ever does.

Snapped a ligament in my shoulder while stacking it off my bike. Looks like someone attacked it with an axe and 2.5 years later I still cant sleep on that side. It also makes my whole arm go numb after about 2 hours on the bike. Apart from that it's fine...

It's only stretched a bit, so fingers crossed won't take too long to get it back to full health.

My workmate Jon just walked in with a broken elbow. A woman walked out into his path in Victoria, it needs pinning. She buggered off of course.

Not sure how many of you on here will know Will, but he's a genuine good guy, devoted family man, dad of 2 and a very keen cyclist, road and CX mainly. Loves life and wine and chooses to follow his love by working in a (nice) off licence so is far from a wealthy man. Was knocked off his bike whilst on a family holiday in Spain last week and is in a critical but stable condition. If he recovers, and it is an if at this stage, it is expected to be a slow recovery, so a friend has created the below to allow his family to be able to remain close by. The generosity of strangers is very touching and a good thing to come out of a very bad situation. GWS WNC:

I see a rider down on Burdett Road in Tower Hamlets yesterday evening around 6.15.
Looks like it involved a Tesco food delivery van, he was sitting up with a cut on his face and ambulance arrived on the scene as I was driving past in the car.
Hopefully nothing too serious.

A non-FORS scaffolding lorry turning left has taken out a cyclist on the Bend at E&C, police still on scene and the exit to the New Kent Road is currently taped off. No sign of the cyclist, I think they've already been taken to hospital. Traffic is v heavy on Newington Causeway and coming down from St George's circus.

Just stopped to help out a (newbie) cyclist that got gently T-boned on Creek Road.
His front wheel was buckled and he was a bit shaken, but nothing too major.
Had to tell him he was a twat though for riding on a main road, in the dark, with no lights. Could have been much more serious, and would have been tough to blame the driver who seem like an alright bloke.

edit: already been posted as new thread
I thought that too but you'd have to prove they gave you it.
