  • and it seems like the spokes come loose randomly all the time. Not sure if that's the wheel or the builders, but I agree. Crap wheels.

  • How wide are those tyres? It looks epic

  • Im thinking of selling my cross bike if anyone fancies a last minute go at cx this season.

Bought middle of this year, rode two laps of the hhv course before I punctured out of the race, haven't had time/motivation to get to any other races since. Too busy riding my MTB, which I also want to upgrade.

58cm 2016 caadx tiagra with 1x conversion, fit a new chain at the same time I fit the narrow-wide ring about 100 miles ago at most. Also fit bb7's front and rear, and a set of fancier wheels (dt350 on wtb i19 rims). New specialized Terra's less than 50m ago. Currently running with tubes but tubeless ready. Wheels not tubeless ready but fitted with a no-tubes rim tape. Frame and groupset have very little use, <1000miles I would say. It was an impulse buy.

Haven't advertised officially yet, thinking of asking £650, but thought I'd drop it in here first.

Might pick up a cheap and fun sscx for having a go next season, or just use my 29er.

Will leave it linger here for a while before I post a for sale ad.

  • Anyone know of where I could get some Carbon Frame/Fork canti love? Looking to upgrade my frame/fork..

  • Found a frame local to me..

Its booked in to have the swap done.

  • Picked up a second hand Rose Cross Bike which I'm really enjoying, when I bought it I had road tyres on it (Currently running four seasons) but really want some cross tyres for cycling out to epping, and through some mud - any suggestions? Typically these will be used of gravel in summer.

I'm torn between Schwarable G Ones and Cross Boss, but is the 18 0r so K on the cross Boss out to epping going to drag? And Are the G ones going to be pretty useless in the mud this time of year? Am I infect looking for two pairs of tyres?

  • And Are the G ones going to be pretty useless in the mud this time of year?

Yes - they will gum up.

Am I infect looking for two pairs of tyres?

Maybe. Maybe not. I've been on Panasonic Cinder Cross all season - which is a pretty similar tread to the Cross Boss.

A rocket Ron front and racing ralph rear would be pretty good all year round too I reckon.

  • What's the ride out to epping like on a Cinder cross?

Have you got any tyres for sells @Howard ding me a PM if so.

  • Riding tarmac on 'cross knobblies can be quite satisfying - makes a nice buzz.

  • Schwalbe Landcruisers have a centre rib - am told they are a good multisurface compromise.

Personally I'm on Clement MXPs - which are great off road and feel fast on road (until I look at my rolling speed on the garmin...oh well).

  • They're my winter towpath tyre of choice. Used to be the go to tyre in the three peaks before tubeless. Shit in proper mud though.

  • I'm running Challenge Gravel Grinders at the moment... really good on the road but I'm guessing would be pretty shit in full on mud... I'd run them on hardpack and grass without any worries... originally had some Rocket Rons but they didn't last too long

  • Found myself a bargain this morning: ex-demo 2016 Cannondale CAADX Ultegra Disc for 1450 euro. Can't wait to pick it up.

  • whats the logic in miss matched tyres?

  • At its most basic level
Rear tyres are often thinner with less knobbles to decrease rolling resistance while wider more aggressive fronts are used to improve cornering.

Even with matched tyres it's common to run the front at a lower pressure to the rear.

  • Thanks @Ramsaye, real answer is badgers or magnets though I'm sure.

I picked up a pair of racing Ralph, I was sort of overwhelmed with all the tyre options, so I'll try these at the weekend and if I think I could do with some cornering assistance I'll get an additional Rocket Ron as @Howard suggested.

  • Don't know what they are at full price but didn't sound that good of a deal tbh.

  • Just let some air out, you'll be amazed what a 2 psi reduction does.

Also try tubeless or if that is too much faff try latex inners.

Don't worry too much about finding tyres with aggressive knobs in cyclo-cross. They tend to ride MTBs so are shopping in a different part of the shop.

  • Think I got the ultegra for the price of 2017 105. Maybe not really bargain but I'm happy with it. ☺

  • Just found the original price on the bike and it came from 2100 euro so 650 euro discount. Not bad, no @psee ?

  • look real good!

  • Thought I'd stick this in here before starting it's own thread

I have a new project on the go, bit of a long shot but just wondering if anyone is looking to shift any of the following- any money I save against buying new goes towards a ridiculous paint job

Sram Rival/Force 11spd cassette, rear mech and CX1 shifters
    TRP spyre disc calipers
Decent disc wheelset- tubular or tubeless ready clinchers
    100mm stem 31.8
    42cm shallow drop bars
    Toupe/Romin saddle in 143

  • I have some ritchey wcs shallow drops in 42cm

  • Sram Rival/Force 11spd cassette, rear mech and CX1 shifters

Things get so much cheaper / easier / ubiquitous if you go ten speed.

  • Very true, and that is plan B- I actually have an older SRAM force 10 spd group currently doing nothing but it's silver and I'm vain
