  • Actually I won a $100 bet in Oz when my boss bet me I wouldn't drink a bottle of maple syrup in a bar.

$100... to drink a bottle of sugar... me? Needless to say it took about 5 seconds to take the money.

  • You can get packs of 12 Colombian boccadillo in your high st African/Jamaican/international butcher/grocers shop for £4. Loads have Colombian food sections.

Lucho Dillitos are taking the fucking piss with the prices and bullshit marketing and have also bought all the Google adwords that would let you find it yourself

  • High 5 gel flasks work with maple syrup and are £2

  • I wanted something that packs down to nothing when empty.

  • I love maple syrup. I put it on anything.

  • Cheers, LBS does me a good deal but i'll have a look round and see what I can find anyway

  • partner recently brought some maple syrup back from canada - amazing stuff and somehow less overly sweet than the stuff i've bought here in the UK.

  • Might be something I can use for TABR. I'm sure the yanks will have a lot of maple syrup compared to EU.

  • How do you transport it and eat it on the move?! Do you have little sachets?

I'm kind of hoping you just have a massive bottle in your pocket that you squeeze directly into your gob

  • Sorry ignore my above post, just read the whole thread.
@TTM you're such a nerd / genius. I'm not surprised you found some ridiculous way around it.

Are you still carrying a thermos of tea on a modified bottle cage holder on your Storck?!?

  • I eat gels, they don't freak me out as much as they do most people.

I don't use energy bars much though, i make my own flapjack / cereal bars or just use random stuff like soreen. Though I am partial to a Clif bar every now and then

  • To my shame, I've done so little winter riding that it's yet to make an appearance this year.

  • Haha 'i use maple syrup'....

.... 'i consider using maple syrup whilst sitting on the turbo looking at zwift'

    Clever nonetheless.

  • On the topic of real food on the bike etc, anyone tried these? I've had a couple, and although pricey, they is nicey. It's kind of 'sports babyfood'

  • It's a small ray of sunshine, breaking through the gloom of 2/3 hour turbo sessions.

  • Train on torq and race on torq. Anything else makes me want to throw up if I'm doing intervals.

  • Clif bars ftw

  • Solid food at threshold not for me

  • Have started doing some some more fasted z2 taps on the turbo first thing in the morning; 75-90 mins usually. I have a zero carb protein drink after about 50mins and have a decent breakfast soon after the session.

They don't tend to make me feel tired afterwards during the day, but i have found that since i've started doing them, when i go to do some of the harder sessions, particularly longer threshold efforts, I just feel weak and pathetic.

Is this easy stuff actually tiring me out more than i realise? If so, they can do one.

Looking at my weekly numberz, they're increasing the volume but not my weekly TSS all that much.

  • You're depleating your carb stores and not replenishing them.
Stop doing fasted rides. Or eat more. You need carbs to ride hard.

  • Yeh, i'm starting to think these fasted things are doing me over. Makes me wonder if they're worth doing at all?

For example, i did one yesterday for 75 mins and it felt like a piece of piss. Ate ok-ish in the day after - just a usual day's intake, not really factoring in a need to 'refuel' as such.
Went to do some threshold today and my legs just felt like they had no strength whatsoever. And they're the sessions i want / need to be going well in.

Fairly similar happened about 10days ago too.

  • Why are you doing fasted rides? Are you looking to lose weight?

  • @andyp No, more the fuelling efficiency thing... and seems to make more sense if I only get to train before work.

Am starting to doubt it's worthwhile doing this z2 BS if it's just hindering the hard stuff though

  • It's not the Z2. It's the fasted bit.

You're bonking. What do you expect. It takes days to properly recover from a full on bonk. Some even have bonkovers.
