• It was a real struggle to mount the mudguards.

I had to use the rear stays on the front to get flex enough to use the inside of the rack mounts on the forks.
Also I had to extend the front stay to fit the rear. My silly dropouts and placement of threaded eyelets has meant that standard SKS stays are not long enough. I fixed this with the leftovers from the stays mounted on the front, a bit of copper wire and some silver solder.

Get the right mudguard lines required some spacers and a lot of on and off. In the end I had to file the mudguards where they meet the fork legs and chain stays. 65mm is too wide I guess, but now I have super protections from water and grime, albeit a giant toe overlap ;-)

BTW I need some suggestions for off the shelf mudflaps wide enough to fit 65mm mudguards or suggestions to materials to make them from. Last ones I made from rubber weren't strong enough where they were riveted to the mudguards.

  • I just riveted this baby on. I made it from a plastic binder size A4. Reckon I could make 3-4 similar flaps from the same 1-2£ binder and it is quite sturdy but with enough flex that it won't break the mudguard if it hits anything.
Also mine are 65mm as well.
