Or a Diverge elite.

That too, I prefer that over the Roubaix (not including the weird squeaky 2017 one).
-
• #7379
Me too. Had a go on a bouncy roubaix at the lbs, can see the benefits, but they should have made room for larger tyres also.
Think spesh got it right with their adventure range, awol, sequoia and diverge all decent bikes. -
• #7380
Their adventure range certainty tick the box from the proper tourer to the lightweight roadie with slightly bigger tyres.
I have ridden the Diverge and it's truly a comfortable and fast bike, well build and excellent equipment (thru axle, flat mount, decent clearance etc.) my colleague got one but eventually change it for the obsoleted* Cannondale Synapse* carbon disc because it felt more like a race bike.
*It didn't even have flat mount on the 2017 model.

Can honestly say, out of the big boys, Spesh n Giant are the only ones I'd consider. Never been a fan of Trek or Cannondale.
-

Trek are lovely, but they are sort of sticking to what they know despite producing some excellent bike (such as the trek 920 that is alarmingly light and so much fun to ride).
Cannondale are similar with sticking to what they know, they did make the Slate being the most fun bike ever to ride on road and off.

Only ridden a Trek once, a 8800 early 90s mtb, sold it and bought an Orange Clockwork. Had a go on a friends Slate, fun for an afternoon, but not my thing.

The Orange Clockwork is a whole different kettle of fish, at the time of course, cannot comment on how they are nowadays.
I do like the Trek Stache thought;

A few options here but hard to look past the CAAD 12 with 105 I reckon.

Does anyone have any ideas for decent bikes less than £700 than can ideally take 32c tyres and mudguards to ride for a few hours every day? Would I miss the wider range of gears on a CX bike over a road bike? What groupsets are decent and what should I avoid? Are mechanical discs worth bothering with? Sorry for all the questions (some of which I've asked before), I have no idea what I'm looking for, never bought a geared road bike before.

I just bought the Eastway Balun from Wiggle and am very pleased. So far 46-36 no problem although really the issue will be with the lower gears, not the high. May get a 30 cassette. I'd look for Tiagra at that price and although others will say differently, the mech/hydr brakes and more than enough.

The Verenti appear to take them at a lots less than your price.
It have long reach brakes, mean 32mm tyres can be fitted.

Friend at work just ordered the Verenti, based on +ve review upthread.

They both look terrible.
Where are you? US?

What do you think?
Burn them all with fire

I'm pretty much set on a simple Dolan Preffisio/Ribble Winter Audax frameset, but is there anything else out there I should consider? i.e. mudguard/rack mount, standard road calliper mounts, <£250 for F&F
-
• #7396
if 58 then we can have matching(ish) bikes
-
• #7397
Haha, I was considering that when I saw it last week, however I'm going to be strict with my budget.
-
• #7398
The Spa Cycle 631 Audax for £250 looks alright.
-
• #7399
I think its literally the same frame.

Framesets < £2K, aero and svelte. I can see:
- giant propel (advanced pro?);
- scott foil;
- felt ar1;
- merida reacto; and
- argon 18 nitrogen.
I've left out specialized as they are (even more so than the above) boring.
Then for a little bit more there's the S3.
Anyone else been through this process and have some advice to give?
- giant propel (advanced pro?);
Or tarmac with Tiagra that effectively better than the old 5600.
