Fair point. I haven't recently been charged import duty on anything I've bought; the most expensive thing being about £120 before taxes.

No problem. Yep, they just decide what they think it's worth because they know it's probably marked incorrectly.
Emyr's correct to point out my example doesn't take into account import duty. I'm not sure what the threshold is before you start paying it, but you probably will pay is on a pair of wheels. Think I payed it when importing some new DA track hubs a few years ago, but it wasn't much - maybe a quarter of the VAT value.
Just did a quick calc on Dutycalculator.com, which seemed handy for a ballpark figure/worst case scenario of what you might pay (excl. PF handing fee). Maybe try that, then hope to be pleasantly surprised when PF/HMRC ask for less than you were expecting to pay when it arrives :-) -

What's the status with the EU's 48,5% antidumping levy? Does that apply to wheels and parts or only finished bikes?
-
• #5430
As far as I know it only applies to complete bikes

I'm thinking about ordering a couple of these Light Bicycle rims as a bit of an experiment.
Are they still considered 'not shit'?
Anything I should know about ordering / customs / whatevers? -

Mine took a little while because I wanted a non standard drilling 18H front rim and Chinese new year last year,. but cost was $358 + $50 postage and I paid £21 VAT and £13 clearance on a declared value $150

Cheers man!
Doesn't sound too spendy, certainly not compared to Enve, though I was considering Flo options. (I know, I know aero testing is expensive but I'd rather spend the money on beer, err, I mean kale)

My Chinese crabon 29er forks arrived, complete with an undersized steerer so my crown race is loose.
Options are to go through the rigmarole of returning to China or to shim with beer can and be glad I didn't pay any import duties.

Out of interest, which forks and from which supplier?
I was looking with interest at the hylix 1 1/8 to 1.5" thru bolt flat mount disc forks on ebay for £70ish but then remembered I'd need ones with mudguard mounts...

Admittedly I haven't had any vernier calipers on them yet, but given that the crown race is a good snug fit on my suspension forks I think it's fair to assume they're to blame.
-
• #5437
Are you sure they take the same bearing? Presumably they're both integrated rather having an actual race?
Edit: just looked at the pics. Ignore my questions...
-
• #5438
yeah, everything is definitely matching. Chris King do sell undersized crown races, so that'd be one option. Once I've paid for postage that'll probably come to half the price of the fork though.

Far Sports now have UCI approval on some of their wheels/rims - if you accept that as a valid endorsement.
-
• #5440
They also let Lance and co. win 7 Tours. I'm not sure the UCI's sign off means much to me but thanks for the heads up.

Why don't you try HTFU and ride harder. I'm sure you could make up the 1W you'd save with big fuck ugly jockey wheels

These calcs don't seem to consider Duty.
