  • Ive got two of them, they are great.

  • And the dynamic setting is amazing! Isn't it BRM?

  • Anyone recommend me a turntable? Had a Linn Axis which I sold, but now hankering after playing vinyl again. Was thinking of something like a Project or perhaps a Rega Planar?

  • Chromecast. Mine can't be joined to ad hoc network created during setup. It f-ing reboots my wireless router! FFS

  • BT Router? It's a thing

Although annoyingly, it seems the fix is to update the firmware. Which you'll need to connect to the internet to do. Which will reboot your router...

  • Read somewhere that the fix is to connect your laptop to your router, then create a wifi hotspot on the laptop, to which you connect your chromecast.

The chromecast can then update without directly connecting to your BT homehub and then once it's updated you can disable the laptop hotspot and connect it to the homehub again.

  • Not exactly audiophile, more audio/home cinema related. I have one of these AV receivers http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/receivers/onkyo-tx-sr605-270824/review When they came out 9 years ago they were the under £500 budget pick.

It's used for movies/tv and music. Set up 5.0 with Wharfedale Diamond 9.4 (floorstanders) at the front.

I'm going to be tidying up my AV stuff shortly so if I'm going to upgrade the amp now is the time. Is there any compelling reason to upgrade, any great new technology that has been released that's a must have?

  • And the dynamic setting is amazing! Isn't it BRM?

If it's amazing, it's still not quite BRM. :)

  • Can anyone recommend a cheap pre-amp for a turntable. It's just for my daughters room so doesn't have to be amazing quality.

  • Nice! Will def try this. Ta

  • Thanks to GreatSince78 I should soon have a little Sharp mini system (including minidsic player!) for my shed.
I'd like to mount the speakers to the single corse brick walls of my shed.

    Speakers are:

    • W 160mm x H 240mm x 183mm
    • 1.8kg

I was just going to go for any old cheapo brackets as they aren't too heavy. But thought it was worth an ask here if anyone had any suggestions for brackets or anything I may not have thought of re placement.

The logic for wall mounting is so they don't take up valuable shelf space or get in the way.

Really looking forward to digging out my old MD mixes from back in the day.

    Cheers.

  • Open box @ £139

    (haven't looked at P&P cost)

    Thanks for this @hugo7

Picked up a pair and they're great. Sound amazing considering their size.

Service from Exceptional AV very good too, arrived next day, box may have been opened but speakers had never been removed from their original packaging.

  • Also this, and my dad has ordered a pair as well.

One complaint was that if you create an account they will send your password as plaintext in an email which is pretty shit, but otherwise nothing to complain about

  • Does she have an amp already?

  • I'm using a Project Debut Carbon and I'm really liking it - I've upgraded to an acrylic platter, a better cartridge (2M Bronze) and a speed box because removing the platter to change speed was grinding my gears but overall it's a great table

I think the Rega are also getting reviews at the moment so it's probably down to which one you actually like best.

  • No worries. It was prompted by chainbreaker and motivated by the avoidance of a boring peice of work.

Did both of you go for the walnut? How do they look in the flesh?

  • Yeah, she's got a little mini system with an aux input on the back.

  • Yep. Walnut, looks really nice tbh. Magnets for the speaker grilles seem a bit OTT, but a nice little thing. They definitely sound great, but I wonder if they might be a bit bass light for @ChainBreaker . I've turned the bass gain(?) up on my amp from middle, to almost full on

  • I did too - I think the open box offer is only for walnut.

It's a plastic fake veneer, but it looks as good as a plastic fake veneer is ever going to look. Overall I'd say they look not half bad. We've got a load of teak furniture in our living room and they go fairly well with that.

Can take a pic if you like. They're currently on stands but I've bought the wall mount brackets which will gain us a bit of floor space.

Ha - I was worried the bass would be too much for me, they have more the (bigger) Aegis One's they're replacing. I'm very impressed with the amount of bass for the size.

  • The speakers I replaced were pretty old / relatively cheap ones - slightly bigger than these so to be expected. But there is a lot more clarity to the bass that is there

  • I'm thinking about getting a system for my kitchen. Ideally the amp would be something 70's and silver faced, but no more than 20 centimeters deep. Does that sound like something that actually exists?

  • Money's a little tight at the moment so I managed to find a pair of lovely Eltax monitor speakers for £18 from fleabay. Mine definitely could do with more bass but I can't argue with £18!!!

  • Some portable bits for sale that might be of interest...

  • let me know how you get ohn. I need a cheap phono

  • I think the Btech one from Richer Sounds is £25 ish.

If you need something better, the Project one can be found online for £50.
