New one for me:
bought a Campag seatpost to discover that it wasn't as described-much poorer visual state than in pics (looks like it had pretty bad corrosion/pitting cleaned off with steel wool) and also damage to clamp bolt.
Opened returns process on ebay, seller accepts but doesn't send shipping label.
I ask seller if he expects me to pay for return shipping when it wasn't as described, he then issues a full refund as he says that he doesn't want to pay for ebay shipping label 'if its as bad as you say it is you'll kindly chuck it in the bin'
needless to say as if you're not wanting to pay a few quid return postage, why are you then just chucking the seatpost, even if just for spares?
I'm not keen to fork out my own cash to return it, but equally I feel a cunt for just keeping it. In the cynical world of ebaying I'm also wondering if there's some kind of comeback if I don't too?

If google translate had an ebay seller speak option that'd come back as something along the lines of, "I knew it was a shiter so why would I want it back."
Has happened to me a few times. Other times the seller will just ignore your request and you end up with a full refund and no need to return.
If you feel bad about it, why not drop it into a bicycle recyling project or something, someone there might take the time to give it a bit of love or they'll sell it to someone that will.
If refund has been issued then I think the matter is finished with in the eyes of ebay. The seller will have cancelled the sale as well in order to have the final value fee refunded.

I've had to open my own dispute today.
Bought an air sprung suspension fork on the 10th, it arrived a week later with no air in one leg and too much in the other.
I questioned the seller as to whether there was a problem with the right leg holding air (none was mentioned in the listing) and set both legs at correct pressure.
Got a reply saying the fork belonged to the seller's father, had been little used and maybe he just didn't know how to use it.
I checked the pressures the next day and the next again and was satisfied it was holding air so left positive feedback.
Had to buy a brake adapter in order to use the fork so only got to ride it today and the right leg lost pressure during my ride.
I've started a Paypal dispute as I presumed eBay would see my positive feedback (having a look now to see if I can revise that) and consider the sale finalised. Also, Paypal have the option to request a partial refund which I don't think eBay do?
No reply from seller yet but I did only open the dispute at about 3pm.
Wonder how this will go since I've left positive feedback already...

Seller agreed to the partial refund with no further communication.
I take that to mean they knew the seal was gone. Should have asked for more.

Tbh if you'd already given positive feedback it's surprising they bothered!
It's strange-the less I use ebay the more I forget how many chancers there are out there... I wish there were more and better bike jumbles up here to bypass their shit :(
Still, did get a ver' nice PMP ti replacement for less than the gubbed campag one courtesy of a wanted ad on here so silver linings etc.

I sold a Mac mini on eBay recently, buy it now. Sold in a few minutes and buyer paid by eCheque. I know there's some scams associated with eCheques so will wait for it to clear before sending, once it clears is there likely to be any issues? Anyone else had issues with them?
Tiny bit suspicious as his location is listed as Manchester but a screenshot he sent of his payment linked back to eBay.hk..... -

Are you in the ebay global shipping program by any chance? I'ts an ebay service that does the international shipping and customs declarations.
-

Just ensure you send tracked (with the appropriate level of insurance) to the address provided in the eBay/PayPal invoice and you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks both, eCheque didn't clear so a lot of hassle saved

Here's a word of warning regarding Ebay buyer "protection":-
I just bought a Baschin , Daccordi made 700/600 lo pro ( because I don't have a 600 in my collection) from a piece of work in France BUT I had a little money left in my French bank account so I sent a cheque which cleared in good time and just received the bike - put in box with a couple of bits of card between wheels and frame and no support between rear drop outs. Frame very badly scratched - dropout slightly bent in.
Seller refuses to do anything because he says I should have unpacked in front of postman (can you see a postie waiting while you do that?) and says I must claim from post office -Unbelievable!!
Anyway here's the rub;- Ebay won't do anything if the payment wasn't thru Paypal or through one of their card channels. Thanks Ebay ! Item is marked as paid but Ebay won't lift a finger to help.
So always use Paypal or Card verified through Ebay payment channels.
Now I have to get onto my bank in France and possibly go through French legal channels (fortunately they are quite well legislated for this) but a lot of hassle because of a disreputable Ebay seller. -

Do people's really need to be warned not to buy something on eBay with a cheque.
Why no PayPal, no need for a French bank account!

Do people's really need to be warned not to buy something on eBay with a cheque.
Maybe - maybe people don't all realise Ebay protection is only Paypal protection.
Same applies if you pay cash on collection - If you find a fault when you get item home then Ebay will not give you any help in getting your money back.
I have got Paypal but happen to have some money in my French account so used that as the seller was in France.
If anything I sold arrived damaged I would re-reimburse the buyer and claim from courier not tell buyer to claim from their country's post office. -

Exactly.
Damage in transit is the responsibility of the whoever sends it: the contract is between them and the courier. The courier won't deal with the recipient.
And yes I agree, problems such as you've had with the method of payment do need flagging-up and cannot be repeated too often: readers of the Bad Traders thread will know that too many people don't even know what a bad idea PayPal "gift" is.
And considering the exchange rate, I entirely understand why you'd use your Euros.

Looks like I might have been stitched on eBay. Bought a Garmin, paid, item shipped on the 10th, estimated delivery on the 13th, never showed up.
DPD tracking number says something like 'we've got your item and it's on its way' for the past 6 days or something. Emailed them yesterday to check what's going on, and I got this:
It shows on the system that there is no trace of the parcel. You need to raise a parcel search investigation with the sender.
Went back on eBay to check user rating: 0 points, member for only a couple of weeks. Bummer.
Sent a request for clarification, pointing out the item did not arrive. Not very hopeful.
-
• #866
Did you pay via paypal? If so, open a dispute with them tonight, as the item hasn't been received, and they should find in your favour.
-
• #867
Yes, I'm trusting it'll be simple enough to solve in case it comes to this. eBay is recommending I wait a few days for seller to clarify, which is fair enough.
-
• #868
Just open a dispute direct via PayPal. Sick of playing ebay's waiting game. If the goods have been lost in transit, then that's the seller's issue, not yours - hopefully by opening a PayPal dispute now will give him a kick to get on the phone to find out what's going on...

eBay advice needed. Won a pair of Sugino 75 DD's for a very good price and paid via PayPal.
The seller refunded the payment 2 days later and said that they had ended the listing early by accident when they meant to cancel. The 7 day auction had run 6 days and 23hrs when they ended it. The seller has now identically relisted the item with a higher price. I've attempted to raise this as 'not cricket' with the seller, do I have any recourse available? I've attempted to complain through the standard 'item didn't arrive' but eBay defaults to 'PayPal says a complaint can't be raised'. As most here will understand, I've since spent time researching and purchasing a 144bcd chainring that I no longer have a chainset for, I'll hang onto this but I feel pretty annoyed and out of pocket
-

do I have any recourse available?
None what so ever.
You can probably devote some time to contacting ebay and making a complaint etc but you'll still not have the cranks and ebay won't impose any sanctions on the seller so save yourself the time.

Set up a new eBay and PayPal account with a disposable email account and fuck his new sale over. And repeat.

Random one:
Buyer in oz contacts me after winning an item asking if they can get something else sent to me before i post to save on shipping. I'm reluctant but fair enough request, only if the other seller contacts me directly, gives a tracking number and uses my choice of carrier.
Don't hear anything for a couple of weeks despite sending the buyer numerous messages asking whats going on.
Sent them a message on monday saying i'd cancel/refund on friday due to lack of communication and not wanting them to end up receiving less than expected. no response.as soon as i refunded this morning they contact me to ask why and why i'd not sent the item and that they didn't win the other item(they could have told me that 2 weeks ago) and they still want my item. obviously i'm not going to send it now i've sent a refund.
i have refunded them already, which i cant cancel but they're claiming not to have received a refund(this can take 1-30 days depening on their payment source). i have contacted paypal to confirm if they have/when they will receive the refund or if they can cancel it so I can keep the money and send the item. The whole thing feels dodgy to me, have logged and screen shotted everything. Any other advice? The buyer trades in bike parts it would seem but has received neg rep in the last 12 months

Personally, I'd fire off a polite message (through the eBay messaging system) explaining the facts, stating the paypal transaction reference for the refund. Then I'd ignore all future correspondence and only respond to Paypal if the other party opens a dispute.
-
• #874
They've obviously received the refund notification, as this is what prompted them to contact you, but actually receiving a refunded payment is much slower than a normal payment.
All a bit messy (if I was the other seller, I wouldn't send anything to a third party as you can't prove delivery to the buyer), but I can't see a scam: you've got your goods and have refunded their money.

have just had a good chat with a nice woman at ebay. she confirmed my refund was sent by echeque as there was not enough in my paypal this morning. echeque refund takes 5-7days to clear so it would appear all is progressing as it should
i suspect the buyer is just a bit of an idiot, not actually a scammer. ignoring multiple messages trying to resolve the issue prior to me sending a refund hasn't helped the matter!
Same thing-needed 16mm rim tape, like velox as opposed to the shitty nylon things lbs does-order from powerseller on fleabay and get one 13mm and one 16mm. How fucking hard is it to put two identical things in an envelope? It's visibly smaller than the other one ffs. Can't message them and can't leave negative feedback for a week so left chewing a wasp like a prize cunt.
