Me too, but saw this set up on lovelybike with a 650b x 38 set up and it looks tantalisingly close - hard to tell.

I had TRP CX 8.4 with a 35mm guard and the cable used to rub. I ran Kojaks under it which come in 30/32-ish. You can go full size V but will need something to compensate the cable pull like travel agent.

Are you going to use brifters or stand alone brake levers? If the latter is true, just get full v's and brake levers to match.
-
• #955
No, using 2005 Campag Centaur levers.

True, I had the Cx9 with a 35mm guard with 2-3mm clearance. However, the Motolites in particular look to have a fair degree of adjustment.

I see. But aren't Motolites a "true" v-brake with long cable pull?
-
• #958
if you go want to go Motolite, I have a pair. They are long pull.

AFAIK Tektro RX-6/TRP CX9 @ 90mm arm length are the longest of the mini-v's on the market before you start getting into full length v-brake territory and different cable pull

Just checked the Paul website and yes the motolites are long pull. So no go with my levers. Hmmm.

just go full V with travel agent

Are there any independent reviews of the Compass centrepulls out there? Am currently idly dreaming about a custom frame designed around 650bx42, but would like to find someone other than Jan Heine enthusing about them. Are they really that much* better than cantis?
*At current exchange rates (thanks, Brexit) they're about £300 including frame braze-ons aren't they?

May well do - eventually. In the mean time I have a pair of VO Zeste to put on, but never enamoured with canti's.

Ive fit an rx5 mini V (85mm arms) over a 45c slick with mudguards. Mind you it was 700c but that shouldnt make a diff.

They are awesome, but because they are base on an old design, they can squeal horribly when pads not aligned, in order to aligned them, you may need to actually bend the arm (which is actually how they aligned pads back then before we have washer).
They are without a doubt very powerful and stiff, with no judder at all, I love mine but it take quite some time to get it set up.
They are better than Canti because of the lack of fork judder for a more powerful feel and still obtain massive clearance for a huge mudguard, however the biggest limitation is the choice of brakes, whether cantis you get a massive choices, but required more fiddling.

Thanks - though for the sake of my wallet I wish the answer had been 'no, they're rubbish'! Will have to up my imaginary budget a bit then...
My only experience of centrepulls has been the old Weinmanns on my tourer, which are rather indifferent; but they need new cables and probably some better blocks.

For the sake of your wallet, you can always go cantilevers, as you do have a huge choices to go for.
Plus, it is a steel frames, there's no reason in the future that you can get braze on replaced, I did exactly that on my Oak.

I have been trying to work this out, some people say they've done it (I was looking at 38s/45mm guard, 42s might be pushing it). A lot of it seems to be to do with where the bosses are welded on. Planning to get a pair of CX9's and get the calipers out.
Good to hear @t0-ster had success with it.

Bit late to the party, but I can say without worry that setting up fenders with mini-vs is almost always a headache and often requires finding a way to "lower" the fenders to clear the cable of the brakes which limits your maximum tire size options.
Go V brakes w/ travel agents, get good cantis, or go without fenders.

Me, ta.
What size metal mudguards do I need?
-
• #973
I'm selling mine after Sunday. Very light use. @willhouse gets first refusal.
