Thats exactly what happened to me , (dec Os update) did a factory reset and brought the finger options in settings and managed to get it working for another 3 days and they it disappear again. I contacted LG and within a week i had my phone back with new fingerprint scanner and main board according to what they said ( proven by a new IMEI number )

That seems odd, I wonder if there is something contextual in the UI that recognises that there isn't a usable fingerprint scanner so it hides the option?
I'm on 7.1.1 and still have the option in my menu and no issues using it (on a n5x obvs)

I had assumed that the nx5 fingerprint scanner issues I've been having were a software issue, as they happened after an OS update? The fingerprint options seem to have disappeared from Settings too.
