In my case, I needed a quieter turbo (already had a fluid turbo) which was direct drive (no wheel slippage for sprint training). Getting a power meter and cheaper direct drive trainer (Cycleops Silencer/Jetblack WhisperDrive) was an option too. I mostly do my training indoors (I actually quite enjoy it) and reserve outdoors riding for fun, so the added flexibility of having a power meter actually on the bike wasn't necessary. The Kura came to £600 after BC discount, and fulfils the criteria.
Out of interest, why are people spending 700 quid on a smart trainer when you can get a fluid turbo and a power meter for roughly the same cash?
