• Just my recent experience and predicament with Apple..

The logicboard on my 2011 macbook pro died on the 29th December and the repair program Apple issued for them ended on the 31st December. I couldn't get a Genuis bar appointment before the 31st. So I called Apple, explained the situation and the manager said everything will be fine as I had reported the issue to him and to book an appointment at the Apple store for after the 31st.

I go to the Apple store on the 4th Jan, they confirm the logic board has failed and would be covered by the repair program. But, my 2011 macbook pro has gone 'vintage' meaning Apple no longer service/repair them. This meant the system would not allow them to book it in for repair. The guy at the genius bar spoke with a manager in the back and all they could do at store level is offer £350 off a new mac. I told them I will contact Apple to what they will offer.

I spoke with Apple yesterday on the phone and they couldn't offer anything other than £150 credit for anything off the website that isn't an ipad, mac, iphone, gift card etc, so basically an accessory item.

I am left with a laptop that no longer functions. Instead of going in an getting it repair for under the repair program I am just left with the option of spending £2k+ to get a replacement 15" mac book pro.

Should I tell the store I want a bigger discount? does that seem fair? Best case scenario would be a sum of money on a gift card so I can buy a 2015 15" mac book pro from the refurbished store.
