Roding Lane like an ice rink this morning. We had three offs between two, two of them me. Avoid.

I'm fine, thanks, some cuts on my right arm and a sore right hand but more annoyed about the ride being cut short and some nasty scratches to my right hydro shifter.
Might write to the local council about that road as it's one of the main routes out to Essex for cyclists and it has a constant stream running down it which is bad news when temperatures drop.

Bloody hell i hate this time of year. Spend all my days looking at weather forecasts wondering if i should ride out or get on the turbo.
Tend to err on the side of over-caution now having had spills a few years in a row. The body and bike damage doesn't seem worth the risk to me...

Just went a-over-t on a frozen bit on my way out to the garage. Cars frozen already up here (Cambridgeshire). Watch out tomorrow morning all!

Studded tyres don't really help on slightly icy roads, right?

Don't lean, everyone.

Everyone ok today? Tubengered today as I feared the ice, but on my walky bits the roads in central london looked pretty fine. Was I being over cautious?

Few big sheets of ice going through Syon Park then Hyde Park, otherwise it was alright (or just lucky)

Was ok from Mile End to Soho via old street. But i did notice alot of frost on the pavement so you might have put yourself at more peril!

I think Central London and large parts of Inner London are usually too warm just from energy emissions for any ice to form there.

Having had a massive off last year (25mph descent) on sheet ice in a dip (luckily a big sheet so I slid with minimal road rash) I now apply the following rules
4c or below and wet - turbo
3c or below and dry - turboOnly exceptions being purely mtb rides.

3c or below and dry - pub then sofaftfy

Do people riding brakeless or discs still put zip ties round their wheels and rims or is that just a Scottish snow thing?
-

It's pointless

Beddlestead is a no go, i repeat (sitting in bath bruised up) BEDDLESTEAD IS A NO GO.

Safe this weekend or not? It's obviously cold but it's been very dry too. There aren't any weather warnings and there's ice about for sure but it seems to be the kind you can see.
Not sure if it's worth risking it or whether I should just keep up the swimming...

Was Regents fine today? Will probably go tomorrow but wanted to how people have got on today...

Short of an icestorm or blizzard Regents should be fine.

Did 100k in Kent, avoiding small lanes and it was fine.

went out today, my garmin plot shows i was doing 26mph. Luckily my skin slowed me down.
Yeah, that's the problem isn't, be super careful but risk missing out on nice rides and good training miles, or not be careful enough and potentially be off the bike for weeks.
Don't get me wrong, I have zero desire to fall off too, I've only just finished physio on the elbow I broke in August 2014 and I do not want to go through that palava again!
And yes, yesterday not a good day, Saturday with the sun and being drier was much better. At least you did some miles, I magically got better on Sunday evening ready for work today :/
